help

Ok so I am having a elegant beach wedding at Paradise Point and my florist is making arrangements for the end of aisles and I was going to use galvanized tins that I would paint white then also use a white tin to hold water bottles for ceremony and similar tin for the cards. Well I found silver galvanized tins and I attempted to paint them but it didnt work out so well. I looked online for already painted tins but they didnt have the right sizes. Any recommendations or ideas? TIA

You probably need to prime them first.  Talk to someone at Home Depot or Lowe's about how to paint galvanized metal, and I'm sure they'll be able to help.  If you have already purchased them, I would use what you have.  :)

What you need to do is remove the galvanizing. The EASIEST way to do this is sandblasting it, but most people don't have access to a sandblasting cabinet. Get yourself some 80 or 100 grit sandpaper, sand it so it's got a rough look to it (basically no more shiny - it should have a flat finish to it), and then prime it. Once it's primed, then you can paint it. If it's going to have any sort of liquid in the tins, use a latex paint (most are latex already) and apply several thin coats to it.(Sorry, all of my automotive experience is coming out...I've been restoring a '67 Jaguar and a '74 Corvette and have picked up a couple of things for finishes.)HTH! :)
