DIY with Real Gerberas?

Has anyone seen or used real gerbera daisies as corsages and boutonnieres?  I contacted a florist who said they don't work well for these items because they don't hold up.  I've been testing some corsages I've made using two gerberas.  It seems one will hold up and the other will wilt.  Do you think that flower spray would help, meaning the spray that helps to hydrate flowers?  Or do you think that I should look for a different flower that is maybe a little hardier?  Thanks!

    Gerberas are not good for boutineers because they rely are their stem to stay fresh.  Once you cut off the stem, they tend to wilt.  Older flowers will wilt faster which is why you see a difference in the wilt time.  A flower spray would not help this issue. 

    When looking for a different flower, look for one with a woody stem (like a rose) rather than a tube stem (like a gerbera or a tulip).

    If you take a small piece of cotton and wet it down, it can be placed at the stem and wrapped with floral tape to hold the moisture.  It should be kept in a cool place until it is ready to wear.  I have used them before and they held up just fine, but climate will play a part in that too.

    My hubby and the BM had gerbera daisy boutoniers and they were great! (by the end of the night they were a bit smushed from all the hugging but they certainly didn't wilt!)

    I've done bouquets with gerberas and they did fine, but they do need to stay in water.  They don't work so well for the bouts.  

    For bouts, there are many varieties and colors of mums, daisies, asters, etc... that are similar in look to gerberas and will hold up much better.
