I'd say social security because of all the documentation requirements to get a new license.

Doesn't matter. I went to both in one day, but I think I did SS first. Bought my old card, the filled out paperwork from online, and my marriage certificate. Then I went to DMV where you need the 6 points. And if I remember correctly your old license and certificate count as the 6. And that's all I needed.

ooh do you need to bring your old SS card when you go to SS? If i do, then there goes that plan for today...i dont carry it on me.

I don't remember if I needed it or not. I just remember that I brought it with me.

oh and I remember that the girl in front of me didn't have enough info on her marriage certificate. I don't know what it was missing but she was turned away and had to take it up with the county office.

Just so you know, you don't get your new SS card while you wait. They take your card from you right there, and then mail yours to you. Ask them for a printout regarding the transaction - that's what I brought to MVC.

Doesn't matter where you go first, you don't need one for the other. You also don't need your old card. I did this all on Friday and waited over an hour at the Parsippany SS office.  DMV was much quicker.
