Can they add sleeves?

So David's Bridal told me they can add a sleeve to ANY dress.  I went to pick up my dress today, and the sleeves looked horrible. They would not lie flat, and they had all this excess material coming out of the armpit. They told me that it's the material, and there is nothing they can do.I left the dress there until my mother can come look with me.  I might just have to buy a bolero - it was that bad....

If it looks that bad and you aren't happy with it, I would have them take them off or have them fixed.  You paid for it and if it isn't to your satisfaction then I would have them fix it, IMO.

agreed! you shouldn't have to pay for it if you aren't satisfied with the job.

They have an "all sales final" policy, but one of the reasons I didn't leave with it, was because I may have them take another shot at it.I'll see what my mother says - she's done sewing all of her life. The sleeves are on with only hooks and snaps - so I can rip em right off if needed.

Didn't have a camera with me, so no pics.  When I go again, I'll take a camera.

I'm so sorry about that, definitely complain complain complain, this is your wedding dress you should not have to settle! Is that the David's Bridal at Gateway? I know I was happy to get my dress out of that store :SHowever, I do have to go back to get the veil steamed out...

i'm so sorry to hear that about your dress!  i hope they are able to fix it, at their expense, not yours!so is that kind of a suggestion now to have my dress altered at that David's Bridal??? I'm so torn because I bought my dress there, and i know getting it altered there would be less expensive than other places around town, but i'm so afraid to have the nightmare experience i've heard from other brides.

my friends warned me that they were bad, but I just wanted to keep things simple.  Now $300 in alterations later, I realize this won't be simple.  I will say this, the under-bustle looked fine, but if you need sleeves or something more complicated, go elsewhere.

they did a good job on my bustle, but like the PP said, you may want to take your dress elsewhere for more advanced alterations.Davids Bridal at gateway said that I could bring my veil back to get the wrinkles steamed out before the big day... surely they can't screw that up... can they? :S

Christine,You really don't need to take your veil in to get steamed. All you need to do is run a shower at the hottest temperature that you can, close the door and let the room fill with steam, then hang your veil in there for 10 minutes or so while the shower runs. Veils are delicate and that will do the trick for you. If you go back in and there are still a few spots here and there you can just gently pull on the material a little bit to get it right. Really, all they do to steam anything (be it a dress or a veil) is use a little hand held steamer, so there's no need to take your veil back in when you can pretty much replicate the treatment at home. HTH!

thanks for the information! the only alterations i need is to have the sides taken in a little and the bustle. there is minimal beading on my dress and it mostly goes down one side. i think i may take it to DB afterall,,
