  I've been wondering the EXACT same thing. The whole "Who's going to tell everyone what's going on next?" thing is a biggie for me.

  My mom actually brought up that concern to me, but I think I've convinced myself out of a dj/mc.  the way i'm doing the ipod is to have three separate playlists 1) cocktail "hour", 2) dinner music with a small bit of dancing towards the end 3) dance music.we will ask the MOH and BM to get the ipod started by selecting the cocktail hour playlist, which has enough music for alittle under an hour.  after that, we'll ask them to switch to the dinner music, which starts out with jazz pianos selections for about an hour and then has more modern songs (all of my love-led zep, you're my best friend-queen, etc) and eventually dips into some happy music like brown eyed girl, get down tonight, etc.  eventually at that point (2.5 hours later, we hired eddie powers to stop by and sing some elvis songs for about 30 minutes in which my FI and I will have our first dance, father daughter dance and then an extra song which is upbeat so that people can get up and dance.  after elvis is done, we will only have an hour left so we will then click the final dance playlist, which has an hour of dancing music, mostly fast but some slow.most of our playlist except some of the dinner music has a beat so that people could get up and dance at any time.   knowing me, i'll probably start djing it since i've spent hours coming up with my playlist (which is still evolving).  i hope that helps.i know other people had djs and it worked out great but others have docked the ipod without problems.  i'm taking my chances with the ipod.   i've already spent enough too.

  the way i'm doing the ipod is to have three separate playlists 1) cocktail "hour", 2) dinner music with a small bit of dancing towards the end 3) dance music.Do this.   You'll know your playlist, when you hear XXXX song, you'll know that YOUR DANCE is the next song.. so get yourselves ready, tell someone to tinkle the glasses and announce you.  A groomsman or one of the fathers can do this.  Not a big deal. Add in an extra playlist for a slideshow if you're doing one.

  You could also designate someone to keep the flow of the evening going especially if you have a few outgoing friends that love talking. Almost a host/hostess for the evening.

  Were having the ipod too, we have put together old Vegas Frank sinatra etc songs for the the cocktail our and dinner and then a dance playlist for later. We have our first dance song seperaly and my Fiance will ask me for the first dance at the end of his speech. We have asked one of our guests to be the MC for us as it was a way of getting someone else involved. Tehy will announce us as we arrive and then ask people to be seated for dinner etc. We've been helping out at a friends golf club recently working behind the bar at functions and not one of the DJ's has spoken all night apart from when we asked them to call last orders... why pay all that money if they aren't even going to speak!!
