1840s Ballroom/Grand Tremont--Comments?

Hello, My FI and I are planning on visiting the venues listed above.  I would love to hear from knotties who held their weddings, attended a wedding or considered these venues during their planning process.  From looking at their websites, I think both places are gorgeous...but I prefer to hear from unbiased individuals :)

We decided not to look at the $1840's Ballroom... though it was beautiful, the decorating was really NMS. Plus, it was a little more than we wanted to spend because the downpayment for the ballroom was expensive (for our budget), as were all the caterering choices. We are almost 99.9% sure we're having our wedding at the Tremont Grand! We did our tour/meeting with Deliah Wilson back in July... but things have gotten held up on our end since then doe to some unique circumstances. Deliah was wonderful, and we really just were swept off our feet by the venue. The Tremont is still a little pricey, but it gives you the all-in-one experience of a hotel ballroom but is much prettier than what you would normally think of as a "hotel ballroom wedding"- nothing against a hotel ballroom, we looked at several of them and I loved them. Have you ben up to see any of the Chairman's suites? I think that's what won my dad over, lol. My mom and I really loved the marble everywhere, esp. the 1st floor bathroom- I'm planning on having pics done in there haha. We'll most likely be doing the Marble/Corinthian or Roman Strada/Corinthian combo because of our size- I highly doubt (unfortunately) that we'll be able to get under 210-220. So, I'll keep you posted in the next few weeks as I know more :) We hope to book by the end of the month because we will most likely need to get married by the end of May 2010.

I went to a wedding at the Tremont. It was very nice and I know the bride was really happy with it. My criticisms would be that the food was only okay (a chicken entree) and that the space felt kinda tight for the group. I think she had like 185 in the Corinthian Room? But maybe I am confusing the rooms. Overall it was a beautiful wedding and she was thrilled with the service. I also know they bargained on price.

The tremont is beautiful!! It is pricey though.  Also, I think it's more directed towards bigger weddings.  We are having a tiny wedding and for the money and space it really wasn't worth it.  However, if you have the budget and u like it, go with it.  It's beautiful!!! 1840's ballroom - My opinion,  I just don't like it.  It's not my style.  Also, I don't think they have a kitchen there.  The food taste like it was just microwaved. lol!

Thank you for the honest comments.  We visited today and learned a lot about what each venue offers.  Everyone we spoke with was great and friendly.  I had the pleasure of meeting with Delia at Tremont and she is just lovely.  She knows her stuff and is easy to talk to.  We met with Stasia at 1840s and appreciated her down-to-earth manner.  FI and I need to do some more thinking about what we want and a bit more research.  Watch out for more questions :)

Hi, my fiance and i looked at the 1840's ballroom and it was gorgeous! We met with Stacia and did a tour of the 4th floor. We were interested in doing an outside ceremony and cocktail hour and an indoor reception and they can accomodate both. The back up plan for rain is great. The ballroom on the 4th floor is very elegant but we actually looked at the city lites one on the second floor and liked that better. I suggest taking a look and seeing for yourself. We didn't end up going with this vendor because I have always wanted a wedding on the water... but this was definitly our second choice! Good luck!

We looked at the 1840's ballroom (I did twice, FH did once), but parking would be outrageous and 2/3 of our guests are already paying for a hotel room since they're coming from my home state (NY).  We also felt rushed and the woman we met with never contacted us again!  We'd have to rent chairs for the outside ceremony and felt that it wasn't going to be 'personal' since it's not that private. The Inn across the way was fabulous, though...Very nice.

We are planning a 5/2010 wedding, and up until ver recently, the Tremont was our desired location. We visited and loved everything about it. But I would have to agree with one of the earlier posters...if you're having a small wedding, it seemed just a bit much. And I believe you would need to do valet parking, unless you don't mind your guests parking and having to walk to the location.Just to make sure we were covering all of our bases, we also decided to look at historic mansions in the area, since we both love architecture and character in a space. Boy, were our eyes openend! Once we got out of downtown Baltimore, it was amazing how much the prices simply dropped for equally beautiful mansion venues with free parking, and many with in house caterers! We ended up going with Grey Rock Mansion in Pikesville. It's a lovely space, and Simply Elegant Catering has a pretty good reputation as well. It's a suburban setting not far from the city, and the total cost for venue, ceremony and catering is more than half of what we were going to spend for the same at the Tremont. Don't get me wrong, its a terrific place, and may be just right for you, but it couldn't hurt to explor options away from the heart of the city. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you'll find.PS - We're using some of that "found money" in our budget to hire a wedding planner, and to go towards our honeymoon...Yay!

My FH and I are looking at the same venues for our Jan. 2010 wedding.  (i know, a little late planner, eh?).  i love last minute.  We are deciding between the Tremont and 1840's, as well, as our guest list is looking like it will be over 250.  I dont think all of the guests will come, but still, we have to plan for that.  Its fabulous that I found this post.  My FH doesnt like the 1840s, apparently his mind was made up before he saw it!  Which is sooo frustrating, because there arent that many options out there that will let you bring in your own caterer and we need to have cultural food!  Im starting to get a little stressed about this!  So, I finally decided to hire a wedding planner.  I met with one today and Ill meet another thursday.  I would have loved to do a wedding at one of the older mansions, they just dont fit our # and wont let us bring in catering.  I hope the tremont will!

Rands09You summed it up perfectly!  Our ideal venue will have interesting architecture and character.  It wouldn't hurt if it was affordable too :).  In fact, that is why we are looking for venues in the Baltimore.  Though we don't know the Baltimore area that well, we are hoping it is less expensive than the DC area.   I would love to come across some gem of a venue.  Thanks for mentioning Grey Rock Mansion.  If you have any other suggestions, feel free to share :).  We also visited the Engineers Club and loved it.  The price (membership fee, food, beverage and such) is making me pause.  It is so beautiful though.  And, it can handle our 150 - 200 guests.  And, you get the Club all to yourself for the whole day...wistful sigh.  Oh, did I mention the dreamy spiral staircase? Still looking though...
