Frustrating venue hunt

Now I know why I stopped searching for venues for awhile... it always leaves me feeling defeated. Most websites and e-brochues give you so little information, so I've signed up to get more information mailed to me from a few places, but I could use some steering in the right direction.

My FI is from Lansing and lives in Ypsilanti, so we're looking for something around those areas. We're not entirely sure what we want yet, but we do know we want an outdoor ceremony, and would prefer an indoor reception. We're also toying with the notion of a brunch reception, as opposed to the traditional evening dinner to cut costs (and because vegetarian options are hard to find). As far as guests, our prelimary list has between 200-250 people, but we're willing to make cuts if needed.

As my searches have proven rather fruitless so far, I was wondering if anyone had knew of any venues that they liked that meet our needs? (Or some of them at least).

Thanks a million!

The Kellogg Center at MSU has a space for an outdoor ceremony and then an indoor reception.  It also has rooms that could fit 200-250 people and they do have a brunch option.

I am not sure what your budget is but it seems to fit your criteria!  Hope that helps!

A couple of other options to consider:

The English Inn in Eaton Rapids has an outdoor ceremony site and room for at least 200 indoors.

My DD is having her reception at Walnut Hills Country Club in East Lansing.  They can hold about 200.  You don't need to be a member to use the facillity.  I think they also have outdoor ceremony locations and Cara Sturley is a love to work with.

Eagle Eye/ Hawk Hollow in Bath can also do outdoor ceremonies and handle indoor receptions for over 200.

    Good luck.

We are getting married at the Grand Ledge Opera House. It is beautiful! We are getting married outside, having a cocktail hour downstairs, then everyone goes upstairs for the reception. They are really nice and you can bring in your own liquor and caterer. They can hold 200+ people and will design a rain plan with you as well in case of the weather :-) Hope this helps!!

Carissa- They do certainly seem flexible. I sent them an email asking some specifics, so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion!

I was going to get married here.  It's a cute and they have a barn that you could decorate to look amazing with some event lighting.  www.OrchardWedding.com

When I was looking at venues I liked what I saw for the Lansing center indoor reception.

I don't rememeber reading anything in their info about an outdoor ceremony but somewhere else online I saw a GORGEOUS pic of a ceremony there out by a gazebo on the boardwalk next to the river. That could be really beautiful!

I suggest the University Club - but the Henry Center Atrium...we are getting married on their patio...overlooking forest akers, MSU's golf course and then reception inside in the atrium which is all windows overlooking the same area. Personally I am not a fan of the service at the Kellogg and have found the University Club very accomodating.

It was beautiful! we had an outdoor ceremony (under a giant willow tree next to the lake) and an indoor reception and it was just perfect. I highly reccomend it!

I'm getting married in a church in Lansing and then having my reception at the Cobblestone Event Center in Mason, MI. It's a beautiful and unique place holds 250 people...

We are getting married at Lakeside in Lainsburg, which is just outside of Lansing.  It isn't a normal banquet hall as it used to be a jazz club, so the hall has character.  There is a great site outdoors for ceremonies which overlooks the lake - which is beautiful!!!  In addition, the prices are great - which for us sealed the deal.  Definitely check it out - www.lakeviewweddingsandreceptions.com - I will say the website does not do it justice.  Plus the food is sooo amazing! Hope this helps.

I would suggest Eagle Eye's Wedding Garden or West Lawn. I have been to ceremonies at both and it was beautiful. I know that they have space for 200+ guests too because my best friend got married there.
