HM help! Vegas??

(I also posted on the HM board...but I want yalls help too!)So Ive given up on just leaving the HM planning to FI- now were back to the drawing board....FI and I are having so much trouble deciding on where to go. We have looked at so many options....staying in Houston and going to a B&B for a mini-moon, mexico, arizona, florida, and orange beach AL. We dont have a big budget for the HM and we dont have much time to do anything more than about 4 days. So yesterday FI and I sat down and started really searching since we need to be booking something soon. We started looking into Las Vegas and we found a great deal at the Signature at MGM Grand. A great room thats in our price range. But....I will still be 20 yrs old when we go on our HM. We cant gamble since Im not 21, and as far as alcohol- we would prob just buy alcohol and store it in the fridge in our room or maybe share a drink at dinner.Would it be dumb to go to Vegas just b/c we love the hotel? What other things are there to do in Vegas besides go to casinos and clubs?

There are a lot of great shows in Vegas, and I think you can take a day trip to the Grand Canyon

There are great shows, you can relax at the pool, get a spa day. JMO Really if I was 20 I wouldn't have fun in Vegas, when I go I normally sleep during the day and gamble and party all night.

i had been to Vegas several times before I was 21 and loved it.Lots of great shows. There is lake Las Vegas near by so you can do stuff there, helicopter tours of the Grand Canyon, also the hoover dam.Ceasars has great shopping too.

Also I don't think it's dumb, but I think you could always go to Vegas later. They run specials all the time.

good question dang...can i say half & half? we want to be able to relax and enjoy the amenities of the hotel but also go out for some adventure at night- obviously you cant spend the entire HM locked up in ur room :)but the main thing we want is an amazing room....and a nice bathtub! the one at the signature mgm has a whirlpool tub!!! the hotel in vegas also has a heated swimming pool.

I drank at 19 and gambled and no one carded me. Your husband can buy you drinks since he is over 21. I say just see shows. The best place to buy tickets is the ticket place next to the m&m place. You have to get there when they open and they have tickets at discount prices. There is a dinner theater one thats a wedding. You go to the reception. It's so much fun!! It's called Tony & Tina's wedding!! I had fun going through the mgm place and just walking around. I also had fun at the star trek experience but that is gone at the moment. There is tons to see and do. You can get away with being 20. Sine your married your husband can you buy you drinks at places.

The discount ticket place is like right next to MGM!! Also I just stayed at New York New York and had fun with the rollarcoaster and the arcade area upstairs.

p.s. mexico is your friend.you only have to be able to get your beer to drink there :) and umm all inclusive deals are awesome.vegas is $$$...umm and don't get arrested. because gambling underage is illegal. and you can't do it even if you are married and if you won big that would REALLY suck.
  • edited December 2011
yeah maybe you shouldn't gamble but you could defiantly drink and do all the other stuff. I would go see the Grand Canyon. Plus there is a nice outlet mall. There is two and I have been to both. Good coach outlet!!

Carnival Cruise line is running specials right now =) with free upgrades. Vegas will not be as exciting for you on your honeymoon if you want to do more relaxing activities.

You could find some cool things to do in Vegas, but if i were 20, i would go some where else. Of course, it's your HM and you should go where you want. If you only have 4 days, then why not go some where closer to home? You could do Austin. What about going to DC and checking out all the cool history places? The museums are awesome there and i can't wait to go back. Make a list of things you both enjoy doing. Honestly, you can hang out at a pool and a spa hotel anywhere. Take your list and decide what's important to you for the HM. If you like history and museums, then you should go some where like DC. If you like mountains and earthy stuff, then go to Denver or somewhere in the moutains---Denver is only 1.5 hrs away from popular mountain towns. I use to live in Denver and could give you some tips on what to do---it's a great place to explore and the little mountain towns are so much fun. It's super cheap and there's a lot to do.If you like ghost stuff, then go to New Orleans and do all the ghost tours at night. That's always fun. Plus, any place you go in the next few months will have Fall Fests that could be fun. Well, i hope this helps.

I don't think I would do Vegas at 20 and for Honeymoon. It is a blast but I was drinking and gambling also. I also rec. Mexico or a Cruise. Cabo is amazing and you can get some really good Cruise deals.

i just got back from Vegas yesterday. This trip was completely unlike my last trip.1st trip there - i did all the sight seeing and shows. Walked the strip up and down. Gambled a little. Drank much.this trip - STAYED at the hotel. Well, between our hotel (Treasure Island) and the Mirage cause there's a tram. I had maybe 2 drinks the whole time i was there (since saturday). Gambled a LOT. saw no shows. In my opinion - I think Vegas, I think gambling. If you arent into that tho (or cant) - I still think there is plenty to do. The shows are fantastic. The restaurants are preeettty nice. And there's fun stuff to do at most of the hotels - like car shows, and the white tigers, and shopping, and free shows like the Sirens at TI and the Bellagio water fountains. And it's your honeymoon, enjoy the hotel room ;) (on that note , TI's rooms were way better than the Luxors.)

Plus there is a nice outlet mall. There is two and I have been to both. Good coach outlet!!We have that in Houston...I would go to Mexico or a Cruise, or something like that you can get great deals on those. I wouldn't chance the gambling in Vegas underage, you don't want to spen your HM in jail, and honestly, we had a nice room in DR, but we didn't spend time in there other than to sleep or get ready for dinner, etc...

Just consider that there are lots of things to do in Vegas but the shows can get pretty expensive...that needs to be factoreds in the budget. I don't think I would want to be limited on my HM, even thought there is plenty to do in Vegas I don't think I would go if I were under 21...but thats just my opinion.I know a Cruise or Mexico All-Inclusive would be in about the same price range as Vegas...Like in Playa Del Carmen/Cancun area and you could drink at bars and restaurants there.

Have you considered short plane ride to Colorado or Florida. You can fly both places cheap and they are quick to get to, and you can have a good relaxing time in a gorgeous place.

Vegas is a blast with or without drinking/gambling. However, like pp said... the extra things add up. Especially when you want to try the buffets, see the shows, spa days, Hoover Dam, etc. Just because you get an awesome flight/hotel deal doesn't mean the cost wont be high.. just depending on what you get. I stayed at the MGM with a strip view and it was fantastic. I had airfare and hotel for 450 from Southwest Airlines this past January.
