Share your timeline!

Hey ladies, I am starting to worry that maybe I am not allowing enough time for dancing, so I wanted to share my timeline, get feedback and find out what the rest of you did/are doing. Ceremony- 5:30-6:00pm Cocktails- 6:00-7:00pm Invite guests in 7:00-7:15pm Intro and first dance: 7:15-7:30 Dinner service (plated) 7:30-8:30 or 9:00 Dancing- 9:00-11:00pm (with things like cake cutting and what not in there) I just feel like maybe we should go until midnight, but I would hate to pay for all that extra time if people will be leaving and not enjoying that last hour. Thoughts?

We're ending ours at 10:30 or 11:00 and arranging an after hours party at a location within walking distance of our venue. People will be free to call it a night early if they'd like, or they can continue the party with us. We're not picking up the bar tab for the after hours (most couples don't), we're just reserving the space and letting people know where we'll be if they'd like to join us.

We are doing the same as Fondue II. Here's our schedule: Ceremony 1pm Cocktail Hour 4pm (bridal party will be doing pics in between) Dinner, plated 5:15pm - 6:30pm Dancing + garter toss 6:30pm - 9pm Because of the area we're in and everything is outdoors, our music has to end at 9pm and reception ends at 10pm. So, there is a nice bar within walking distance and we have space reserved there for those who still want to hang out, but seeing as our day starts around noon, I'm guessing most will be tired.

I would love to do an after-party, that would solve all of my problems!  But, we are getting married at Troon North and there is NOTHING up there, so no bars with in walking distance, or even a short drive.  If you were in my situation would you keep your timeline the same or would you have your reception go longer?

I'd stay with the one you have. Should be plenty of time. Anything over might feel too much. But, we're having an after party at my sister's house

I don't think many guests stay till midnight at any weddings I have been to lately.  I think once the cake is cut, many people leave.  Does Troon have a bar or a suite that you could rent for the after party? Also, I saw that you are only leaving an hour to take pictures.  That might not be enough time if you aren't taking any pictures beforehand.  Just a thought.

Thanks everyone!  Troon has a bar, I will ask what time they close at.  It is not a hotel so there is no suite we can rent.  We are doing a lot of pictures before hand, just not with each other :-)

I have no idea how much it costs, but if it's in your budget, I'd pay the extra hour. Things seem to always run late at weddings no matter what the size is--in fact one of the smallest weddings had the longest 'dancing time' and people loved it! Then you won't have to worry about it. As our big day got closer, I felt like I just threw money at problems to fix them (like adding extra venue time) but it made things work out on our big day :)

Well, I asked the venue and they extended the time for free! DJ was only $100 extra, so no biggie there! The only thing that will cost extra is the bar, but I am guessing at that point in the evening most people will be gone or will not be slamming drinks, so that probably will not add to much to the tab! I think I will just extend it, if no one stays its not like I have wasted a lot of money, but if people are having a blast (like I hope and assume they will) then I do not need to worry about adding time that night. Thanks for all the advice ladies!
