How do I?

Tell someone I don't want something w/o directly telling them?  FMIL emailed me and asked me if I was keeping my last name b/c people have asked her for monogramming.  WTF - I really hate monograms, especially monogrammed towels (don't ask why).  What do I say?  I don't want to say I haven't decided and have them just pick a monogram.

I would tell your FMIL that you don't like monograms and have her pass it along. Some guests may still get you monogram stuff, probably because guests are crazy and like to get you stuff that they like. Blah, I guess you could also just tell them to use your first name/ initial if you didn't want them to do something else

I agree with PP.  Just let her know you prefer things not have monogramming on things.  Hopefully she will pass it along. BTW, I'm not a fan of monogramming things either. So I completely understand.

Slightly different yet close....I really dislike Avon stuff and every time i see FFMIL she gives me some Avon jewerly I have like 15 boxes around here and never wear them...I made FI tell her I didn't like it so I wouldnt have to! As far as the monogrammed stuff idk what to say b/c I personally l love it so I don't really know how to say I don't like it!  Maybe in passing just say you prefer unmonogrammed stuff...GL

agree with PP..I would just let her know that you don't care for Monogramed things. I am a big fan of letting people know if I do not care for something. I would rather them know (especially if they are family members) that I do not like something, then have them spend their money on something that I am not going to use or put away in storage somewhere.

oops I just realized that I left something out.  She said that she had been asked for monogramming purposes.  Which means it's not her that's doing a monogrammed gift - it's one of their friends.  I'm just petrified it's going to be monogrammed towels (I'm really funny abt my towels :) ) If it was a blanket or something it wouldn't be horrible.

maybe you could tell FMIL that you dont like monogrammed things and she could just tell person gifting that she doesnt know what you are going to do about your name.......still take the chance in getting something monogrammed. i am not sure there is a way out of that one b/c person gifting could just turn around and ask someone else or the may just put FI last name initial on there assuming you are taking his name.... i am right there with you.....i dont care for monogrammed stuff either. my sister got me a cute beach bag one time that just had my first name initial monogrammed and that was fine but i agree with towels and stuff, i wouldnt like it.
