David's Bridal

First of all HAPPY HOLIDAYS everyone!!  I just made my appointment at David's Bridals to try on the dresses I though I would like.  I was disappointed to find out that they only allow you to try on 3 dresses during each appointment.  I had narrowed my choices down to six.  I guess i've been watching too much "Say Yes to the Dress" and had other expectations.  To all of the brides who have gone through the David's Bridal experience, do you mind sharing yours.  I'm trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Re: David's Bridal

  • When did you make your appointment?  I've never heard of that before, but I could see them doing something like that on a Saturday when they're insanely busy...

David's is a chain, so customer service will vary from location to location.  I've shopped at three different David's in my area, and had three vastly different experiences.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • My appointment is on Monday at 2:00.  I figured that wouldn't be a peak time.  I live in the MD area but I'm on vacation in South Carolina for the holidays so I figured I'd do it here with my mother.  I'm hoping that there will  not be an appointment after mine so I may be afforded more time.  I'm just finding it hard to believe that there's a limit on the amount of dresses you can try on during an appointment, ESPECIALLY, if like in my case, you plan on purchasing one that day.

  • I went to David's Bridal on a whim in Lynnwood, Washington.  I first called in to see if I could just "walk-in" and they said yes, but you can't try on anything.  So frustrated because I am an instant gratification type of person, I called back later to make an appointment; and wouldn't you know it...they had NO appointments, so I could walk right in...  When I got there, they couldn't pull up my information.  So, my mom and I went around pulling dresses we liked and that were on my favorites list online.  I grew up in the bridal business and my mom has experience, so I just flat out asked for a bra and slip.  They tried to limit my dresses that I tried on, but I just told them, if you expect me to consider purchasing from David's Bridal, I need more than three dresses as I am visiting this store from 200 miles from my home.  Consequently, they let my mom help me into all the dresses and we were able to avoid the annoying "consultant" who insisted on trying to stuff me into a 34 A bra...I am a 36 DD.  After it was all said and done, I am not going through David's Bridal.  I want a dress as unique as I am, and I found a great company to custom make a dress I want.  I like the idea of David's Bridal, but they are just not for me.  I am however, taking advantage of their bridesmaid services, because that whole program is great!
  • When I went to Davids Bridal I must have tried on 10 dresses, and I probably could have kept going if I wanted.  I would just tell them you want to try on more dresses and be firm about it.  IMO, 3 dresses is not very many, there is no reason why you should not be able to try on more!  They do, afterall, want to make the sale.
  • I agree with FutureMrs!

I tried on a ton of dresses and could of kept going! There really wasn't a time limit nor did I feel under any pressure to hurry up! Again, all DB provide different experiences, but I was not limited to a certain numbers or dresses at all!!

  • There was no limit of dresses when i went there. the consultant was actually trying to force me to try on dresses that i did not like. i found a dress that i liked but i need to go back with my mother (who is buying the dress) but i might go to another location because the consultant was sooo pushy. after i said i was done trying on and needed to come back with my mom and sister the consultant got pissy and then tried to get my BM to buy her wedding dress there. my BM said no cause she lives in CA but the consultant still inisisted saying she can fly back to NJ to get all her fittings done!  it was just so annoying that after knowing she wasn't getting a sale from me that day she just pounces on my friend hoping to get her to buy.
  • They ask for your top 3 and bring them for you to try on first. After that, if you want to try on more you can. At least, that's how it worked for me.. I went to 3 different David's Bridals (one was for my friend's wedding though) and it was the same for all 3 of them..
  • My hometown David's Bridal is Lynnwood, WA, but I just tried on dresses while I was in town with my mom at the Hagerstown, MD store. Those ladies were FANTASTIC, and they never limited me to three dresses. I tried on about 10 or so... no problems whatsoever. They never even mentioned limitations to me.
  • Thanks for all your input ladies.  As I stated earlier, I'm going tomorrow at 2:00 and as soon as I get back I'll let you all know how it went.  I'm really excited.

  • I had a wonderful experience at my local DB.  Both of my consultants were excellent, and neither of them set a limit as far as how many dresses I could try on.  That sounds really strange.

  • I tried on at least 25 dresses (I bought two) and was there 2.5 hours.  I didn't feel rushed at all and had a great experience.
  • I tried on more than 10 dresses in about 1 hr.  I only felt rushed toward the end because the store was closing.
  • So I had my appointment at 2:00 and it was FANTASTIC.  I tried on several dresses after giving them three that I wanted.  The three I had went in the store wanting to try on weren't even IN THE STORE but I ended up getting a FABULOUS FABULOUS FABULOUS dress.  I can't wait to wear it.  The lady that helped me out was wonderful.   The overall experience was great.  I don't have a single complaint.

  • Yay!!! Congratulations!  I, too, found a dress I LOVE at DB that was nothing I chose ahead of time.
