HELP!!!!! I can't find a venue

Hi Ladies,   I am getting discouraged with thinking that my wedding day will be as I want at the price I want which is most important here. I am looking for a venue that does not have a preferred cater or in-house cartering and right now I feel like I am trying to find a needle in a hay stack. My family wants to do the cooking to bring in family dishes and things. If anyone has any recommendations or any information, please let me know. You can either post it here or email me at gunby2b@yahoo.com , any and all help is welcomed and very much appreciated.Bride in Distress

what is your budget, and how many people are you expecting? And what area are you looking in?Have you looked at the Trolley Barn in Edgewood, or the Solarium in Oakhurst? If it makes you feel any better, finding the venue was by far and away the most difficult and frustrating part of wedding planning.  Once we got that nailed down, it was pretty much all smooth sailing.

I agree with boxer, the venue was our hardest decision.

I hope that that is the case, which I think it will be. My budget is $6,000-$7,000. I am afraid to depend on the Solatirum because they only book the month of I think, it was something bazar that was extremely last minute. I will look into the Trolley Barn, thanks for the tips.

Oh and the guest list is 153, but that includes everyone that is in the wedding, so I say maybe 125-130

I have the perfect place for you if the location works out-Its called the McGarity House and it it pretty cheap to rent.  I was the maid of honor for my friend Allie whose budget was 5,000 with 150 guests and this is where she had it.  It is an old Victorian style house with a huge lawn and wrap around porch.  She paid a fair price and got it for all day Friday and all day Saturday.  She could do whatever with it, her own food, own decorations, had the ceremony outside, it was amazing! She had family make a lovely sit down meal and hired waiters from a local resturant and just paid them what they would make at night in tips for their wages for the night of the wedding.  The only drawback is the location...it is located in the Villa Rica/Carrollton area, about 45 minutes west of Atlanta.  If you want the website let me know, its a great deal!

You can reserve the solarium as far in advance as you want.  It's just that if you book less than 60 days in advance, and you live in the 30030 area code, they give you 50% off the reservation rate. Also check out Roswell River Landing.  http://www.roswellgov.com/index.aspx?NID=455

cutypie953, my father loves the place, we may drive out there to go see it in a couple of weeks, while nothing is concrete, if he loves it, it is a miracle, thanks :-)

Thanks boxerfan, the pictures look nice, I will check that out bc that rate is less than I had budgeted for so that means I can do something else with the remainder :-)

Hi Gunby2b, The Duluth Festival Center is very reasonably priced. You can do indoors and outdoors for about $700 - beautiful bridal suite, waterfall, plus you can take your own food, alcohol, decorations, etc...

Hi, I would be very surprised if you were able to find a nice venue that allowed outside food from from anyone that didn't have a business license and liability insurance.  The risk to their business is too great.

forgot to add, if you are willing to use a caterer, there are a ton of places:  Trolley Barn, Biltmore, Twelve, Rhodes Hall, Wimbish Hall, etc.  The ones that do charge an outside caterer fee will many times negoitate it down.  It's a tough economy on a lot of venues.

I second the College Park Women's club. That's where I got married and the caretaker is the nicest woman!

Oh My Gosh!!! I feel so wonderful that I am not the only one that has this problem. I am having a hard time finding a venue! I am originally from Douglasville, GA and that McGarity House sounds really nice. I need to take a look at it. If anyone has any ideas in North Ga Mtns near or around Ellijay..please let me know. I have found Cavender Castle in Dahlonega for anyone that is interested and they are reasonable for everything that is included.

Hi Oburrell, do you have any pics that you can show me, I see that someone else made the comment on the wedding being outside. The site doesn't really have a lot to show you what you are getting. If it is easier you can email them to gunby2b@yahoo.com, thanks for the information

mmsdpg09, I can give you some recommendations that were given to me, I work with a lady whose husband is a photographer, now I have not looked into these because this was not really my area but they were recommended. I have also been told that the wineries up there are beautiful. Try looking at http://www.dahlonega.org/index.php/plan-your-wedding/108-wedding-venues.html, but the two below were actual recommendations to me. Good Luck Forrest Hills Mountain Resort R-Ranch in the Mountains

Forrest Hills was a little out of my budget but I guess that is going to be alot of places. If you hear of anything else anywhere between atlanta and north ga...give me a shout! good luck with all of your plans , hope they are coming along well! talk to ya soon!

I'm getting married next month at the Historic Pace House in Vinings and they allow you to bring in everything.  Also, there is a new place off Atlanta Road called the Tanner-Brwner house, but i'm not sure about the kitchen situation.  I believe they allow you to bring in whatever you want.  AND IT"S BEAUTIFUL!!!  Drive by at night - WOW!!  On South Atlanta Road bewteen Paces Ferry and Concord/ Spring Road.

Hey! I dont know if you've found a place or not....Im sure you've gotten so many suggestions, but the place I'm getting married at, IS a church but it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Its called Grove Level Church. You can get married in their chapel or outside by their lake. We chose inside, just because we're getting married in May and don't want to chance it raining. They have their reception downstairs that opens up to a HUGE patio that outlooks their lake that has 2 swans in it...they have a fire pit outside and a giant life size chess/checkers set. the wesite is www.grovelevel.com

mmsdpg09,I went and viewed Forrest Hills and loved it however they were a little out of my price range as well.  If you still haven't found a place try calling local chamber of commerces.  I called Lumkin, Hall, and Dasonville and they had some suggestions.  The Gainesville Civic Center has a room that I am thinking about renting that will hold up to 150 with seating for all, a buffet area, and a dancefloor for $300.
