Ugh, what a dreded process. You will need to wait until you get the original marriage license in the mail before you can do anything...mine arrived the day before our 3 month anniversary. First, go to the SS, they will make the change and give you a receipt, which is good enough to change everything else. Second, go to the DMV...you can do everything else in whatever order you'd like, those two things are the most important though. Good luck!

You will need an official copy of the marriage certificate to do anything. You should go to the social security office first then the DMV. You can then move on to changing your name on bank accounts and credit cards. Don't forget to change your name with the IRS too. Hope that helps!

agree with pp- 1. get the certified copy of your marriage certificate.  It took a long time to get ours- a couple of months!2. SS office- that was pretty easy.  They enter in the system within 24 hours, and then the DMV can go into the system to verify it.3. DMV- recommend making an appt! It took a couple of weeks for my new license to come in the mail.4. Everything else

Make sure you bring your certified copy of the Marriage Certificate, not the Marriage License.

I am so peeved, I sent my request for marriage certificate application in over a month ago... I called yesterday because the check still hadn't cleared - well they said that they never received it! So now, I start at square one again...
