daytime wedding?

Hi all,

I'm new here so bare with me if I'm a bit confused! (I joined the knot a long time ago to help a friend plan, but am just recently engaged myself).  I was wondering if anyone had any great ideas for a daytime wedding.  We are having a daytime wedding for the sole reason that we both HATE dancing, and are hoping that people will not expect that type of reception earlier in the day.  Any thoughts on how to keep it fun for our guests still?  We are planning a smaller wedding (60 people) with family and best friends only.   Thanks so much!!!

  • Are you having a DJ?  If so have him play slower background type music.  Have you ever felt like dancing in an elevator?  Probably not.

  • I am having a 11AM wedding and then hor'dvers (or however you spell it!) at 12:30.  Lunch is at 1:00PM and then having gift opening at 2:30PM.  We are not having a dance either (partly because we don't dance and partly because we don't want to spend a lot of money).  We are playing iPod music during the lucheon and opening presents.  Everything should be done by at least 4PM, that way people who came from out of town don't have to travel in the dark.

  • A smaller daytime wedding is a good way to save money.  You can serve a luncheon or brunch, or mid-afternoon light finger foods and cake.  Maybe mimosas, champagne or sangria punch, or beer and wine only.

Background music is nice, but you can use an i-pod, so no DJ or band is necessary, and the non-dancing receptions don't usually last as long.  So you might actually be able to rest up afterwards before your wedding night.

  • We are having the wedding at noon with a lunch reception after.  Our wedding is formal, but the receptions is going to be fun.  We have a vintage picnic theme.  We want to throw back to old block parties, with a big tent, and lawn games.  We have croquette, horseshoes, and a  bean bag toss, as well as bubbles as a favor (also good for the kids to play with as well as kites)  We will have a dj, but only because he is our friend and he offered as our wedding gift.  We just want layed back and relaxed.  We want an enjoyable time, just hanging out with our friends...Good Luck!
  • I've never heard of afternoon reception being different from evening ones till this board. Usually they are dinner and dancing affairs :) just earlier!

Don't have music that you can dance to. Problem solved.
