birthday recipes

Im throwing a bday party for FI tomorrow  for about 15 people. Whats your favorite dessert/birthday cake recipe? He is not picky at all. I was going to do cupcakes but am feeling brave to try something new and yummy.

  • Does your FI like red velvet?  I don't have a good recipe because I am terrible at baking but my FI is obsessed with red velvet and would love red velvet cupcakes.
  • thats a great idea! i've never made red velvet before. I better get googling on that one:)

  • My mom is taking a cake decorating class, and she totally advocates using Pillsbury cake mixes, says they are the best ever. I'm a chocolate whore, so anything chocolate is good with me :) Chocolate cupcakes infused with marshmallow cream and topped with chocolate ganache sounds absolutely fab, but I have no idea how to make them. I just buy them, haha.

  • I'm not an expert baker, and have always had better luck with mixes than with scratch cakes. Yellow cake from a box + homemade chocolate icing = best cake ever IMO
  • Funfetti!!!  It would go great with my strawberry milk.

  • If you're feeling brave, you could make a simple scratch cake (they're not that hard, I swear!) and get creative with fillings. I like Alton Brown's "gold cake" recipe from foodnetwork.com. My most recent yummy experiments have included strawberry filling with buttercream frosting and peach filling with champagne-spiked frosting.
  • a SUPER easy recipie is a layerd dessert I call Death by Chocolate. -make a box of brownies, when they have coold poke holes in them and pour kahluah over them.  after they soak that up crumble them into pieces.-make 2 boxes of chocolate mousse-get a large thing of cool whip and let it soften enough so you can spread it-crush 8 heath bars (or get a bag of heath bits, they are with the choc chips)layer the indredients brownies, mousse, cool whip, heath bits.  IF you are doing a cake pan 1-2 layers will be fine, if you have a truffel bowl 3 layers looks best. super greatI also have a yummy chocolate zuchinni cake recipe (sounds weird but the zuchinni makes it so moist and yummy, I just don't tell people until after they have tried it what's in it)
