Would you??

So, when FI and I originally started talking about getting married I told him I didn't want a big ring (heh). We had a savings that was specific for something else that unfortunately we have not been blessed with yet. While walking through the mall we stopped into the jeweler to get my ring cleaned and ended up looking at wedding bands. FI found a bigger (but very different ring - something similar to what I originally wanted way back in the day) and had me try it on. He knows I've sort of been down with this last surgery and asked me if I wanted to trade up. I tried the ring on and fell in love but can't part with my e-ring... yet when I look at it I can also honestly say "eh." I guess it's just sentimental value. Ugh. I feel like such a bridezilla and spoiled brat, but I can't shake that other ring. I don't know what to do :\ And I also noticed (after trying on like 7 different wedding bands) that *nothing* matches my current e-ring.

you and FI have good intentioons. Go for what your heart desires (so cliche :D) Whatever choice you'll make , it will be awesome! Hope to see a pic if you do make a switch.

If he offered, I would trade up.I was one of those who didn't love my original ring - DH knew it the moment I opened the box.  He made sure to buy from a place that allows you to change up. He was a little embarrassed but LOVES my new rings.Be grateful that he is offering and knows you so well, cause it would suck to have an eh ring forever.

Hmm I'm really sentimental so that is a tough call for me but I also have not had a shiny new larger bling offered to me. I guess if FI offered, I'd prob be just as torn as you :) Sorry I was NO help.

My mother has the most simple, humble, probably not even real, ring.  One day, she lost her wedding band and cried for like 2 weeks.  She absolutely did not want it replaced and did not want to trade up her engagement ring.  The sentimental value of who they were when she received it and when they got married could not be replaced.  Well, she found the wedding band under her desk about 1 year later (super weird, don't ask.. she doesn't even take off her jewelry at work).  Long story short, I would say no.  With the way the economy is, you could use the money for something else.  Additionally, this is the ring that got you to marry this amazing guy in the first place!  The value of that can't be replaced! My rec if you can't find a matching band:  keep the main stone and change the setting to look like what you liked at the store.  I got my setting and matching wedding band for about $700 (both have diamonds-white gold) at the seybold bldg and really the setting is what makes your stone look amazing.

hmm this is a toughy. My fi also has said that he would love to upgrade my e-ring. I love mine but i'm sure something bigger i would love too. With that said, however, the thought of having to take my original ring and replace it, even if it is bigger just makes me sad, bc i do love my ring very much. Sorry i am of no help, but i do feel the same way.

I guess I also attach this ring with the fact we were TTC for nearly a year and nada. So after this surgery and everything that's been going on with our fertility future, I sort of look down at this ring and see disappointment... but then I feel like, "But this is what he gave me? I should love it." I mean, I seriously told him - don't come home with anything over $1,000. But now I have to go into a medically induced menopause for 6 months to a year and by 28, 29 the latest 30, I have to have a partial hysterectomy (uterus and left ovary) or I'll lose bowel. So, that's when FI was sort of like, ok let's get you something else. Sorry - I guess this all came to a boiling point tonight. LOL. BAH.

aww tess. well instead of looking at it as a reminder of disappointing times, think of the ring as a testament of all the things you went through together. that no matter, you both stood by one another and overcame something together - as a tam, as a couple :)

LOL Alissa... I can never finish the 2nd... So, I'm a REALLY cheap date. Don't even finish the free drink!! Pharm, it's ok :) Its all sort of hard to come to terms with, ya know? We've been sitting on this for sometime now... knowing it was going to come, just not sure when? We'll hopefully get a chance to TTC again before the disease is back, but from the looks of it... it won't be long. We're trying to keep the fire out with the menopause, but with a case so aggressive as mine... i'll lose my uterus by 30 no matter what. uterus or bowel? ill lose the ute, thanks. lol I guess with the 2nd ring, the grass isn't always greener, right!? I wish I could take it for a week on "loaner" and see if I like it! Haha.

Oh Tess, I can't even imagine what you and FI are going through. It doesn't sound like you don't like your ring, it's more like your frustration talking, which is TOTALLY understandable. You seem to be one that takes on a lot of emotion. I was thinking the same about getting a loaner, because you may start to feel guilty that you spent all that money on that ring. Whatever you decide to do will be ok. You and FI decided this together. What I would do? I'm also one for the sentimental value. I thought it was weird at first hearing about people upgrading their rings. Then it becomes more about the ring then the real value of it. I would've thought that your ering would be easier to match up then the plain band? Like I said whatever you decide will not be wrong and regardless of what we tell you , YOU need to be one ok with the decision. GL!

I wouldn't trade up either. I like my ring.. it's what he proposed with, it's what I was flashing in everyone's face and I'm super attached to it. Save the money for your original dream. =) BTW, I like your current ring more than the potential upgrade. That's just me. GL with whatever you decide, Tess!

Lissette - I think you're right about the frustration. FI and I talked about that too... We're dropping my ring off to get re-dipped today, so hopefully I'll fall back in love with it when I see it all shiny!! thank you for your support and opinions, ladies :) I asked a few other people who didn't give advice as good as all of yours! I <3 you all!
