State Room Boston...anyone

My fiance and I have just booked the State Room for an October wedding next year.  Has anyone been to a wedding or planning a wedding here?  It seems like the perfect wedding reception venue...I'm waiting for the rug to be pulled out from beneath us!

I've heard a lot of complaints about Longwood Events recently.  Make sure you read the fine print in your contract!

I attended a wedding there in Sept 08 and it was lovely! Very quick turnaround between the ceremony setup and reception, from what I recall, they moved us to the upper level for the cocktail hour. Gorgeous views and the other thing that stuck out was the dramatic entrance of the bride coming down the stairs. Congrats on booking your venue.

I'm actually getting married there on October 10th of this year!  I, of course, love the venue.  They are fabulous!! They have flawless weddings.  Their coordinators are a little understaffed but they are wonderful and have great ideas. I know that's where a lot of complaints have come from.   Who is your coordinator?  If you have any questions let me know! I'm glad I have another State Room Bride on here ! :)

Ditto LucyD and valpag. Between all of the negative comments here and Boston.com, I ruled it out right away.

Congrats!  I think the Great Room is the most fabulous venue in the city.  I've never seen a bad wedding presented there.  Since you've already signed the contract, you already know about their weird pricing structure and vendor system, so I guess we don't need to harp on that. I did a site visit and met with a great coordinator.  She was very attentive, and even after we told her that we decided on another venue, she sent us a very nice note wishing us the best.

I agree with fool that the State Room is one of the best venues in the downtown Boston!  We ultimately decided against a city wedding and are getting married in Newport at Belle Mer which is another Longwood Events property.  You definitely need to read the contract and ask the right questions or you will be surprised with all of the fees and extra costs that they add on.  Just make sure to ask about everything that comes to mind so there are no surprises!  I definitely get the vibe that they are very salesy and try to brush over things that cost "extra" so just watch out.
