Just in case...

Just in case the Guilford Yacht Club doesn't work out...I asked Owenego Inn in Branford for information. I think I've officially researched or looked at every wedding venue in CT. I either have a real problem or it's just the super long engagement. In case you missed pp, I love GYC but I'm not crazy about their steep rental fees. I'm a little worried I won't get much in my budget. My mom is going bananas over the fact that I first checked it out over a month ago and I haven't really had any concrete answers or proposed menu yet. I'm waiting to hear back from the caterer but I don't want to get my hopes up if it's not going to work financially. I have no idea how much Owenego is. It seems beachy and laid back which I love. Anyone have any reviews-good or bad? Food? Their decor seems a little odd in some photos I've seen...but sometimes eclectic is good. Plus, I'm not really drawn to the ballroom-y kinda wedding. Turns out they can hold 200 people for a sit-down. I was under the impression they only did smaller parties.

Have you personally been to Owenego? I liked how it looked but FI and I were less than pleased. We felt that the decor in the dining area was outdated and the lawn area was a little bit too public. If you are getting married in the summer, there will be a lot of people milling about in swimwear...just our opinions.Also- it was a bit pricey in our opinion.HTH!

ek! no, i haven't seen it yet. I emailed them and they said they will be sending information, then I was going to call to make an apt. if their menu/pricing looked reasonable. I was keeping my fingers crossed that it would be the answer to my wedding venue prayers! I was hoping for the opposite of pricey..LOL. Do you remember about how much per person?

SillyLGoose: I just wanna say I hear ya totally on this post. I missed your pp so I didn't know you were looking for a venue still. It is frustrating. I am doing it for the second time around after loosing our deposit on our first venue which we picked right away and ONLY looked at that one last year lol So I am officially going through what most girls go through when picking a venue and that is making all the phone calls for pricing, minimums and appointments and stalking the websites for pictures. I am even creating an excel spreadsheet to keep track of what would be the best overall deal and what advantages and disadvantages each venue has to offer. It sucks when you can't find pricing on their website too! ugh soo frustrating because then you have to wait for it to come in the mail. Although, I recommend calling Owenego and just asking them what their packages run from to get an idea and if it sounds like something within your budget you will know right away and can ask them to mail you more detailed brochures. Anyways, Just wanted to second you on this frustration! Its a big decision and you are right for taking your time and making a thorough decision.

i just went to a wedding at Pine Orchard Yacht Club...it was really nice. I think it's a private club though, so not sure if yo umight need ot know a member. I just thought of it because its on the water in that area as well. Regarding costs I have no clue the price range..but I don't think you need to bring in a caterer gl!

My mother's law firm used to have their company picnic every year at Owenego Inn.  I've been to quite a few parties there and love the place.  I actually tried using them for our wedding but unfortunately, they close down for the winter.  The decor isn't exactly the best but they have a nice deck with gazebo area overlooking the sound and the lawn is pretty big.  Most of the time at the company parties was spent outside.  They have pretty good food... I loved their clam chowder.  I'm not sure about other people using the beach and walking around the property if its rented out for something like a wedding.  For the company parties, I'm almost positive it was our party only... no outsiders running around in bathing suits.  If they're in your price range, I say definitely go check it out.  You may or may not like it depending on your style and you'll be able to ask about outsiders using the grounds.

I have never been to the Owenego, but my aunt bartends there, so if you happen to choose it, let me know and I will tell her to make sure she works your wedding, so you will have a fun bartender! I went to a wedding this weekend at Hammanasett (sp*) It was very low key, comfortable is the best way to explain it.  That is also option, to look into perhaps.

Thanks everyone! I'll check them out and see if it might work. I got their brouchures..the prices are kinda middle-of-the-road comparing the other venues I've looked at..a little surprised the cake is not included..not sure how big of a cost that can be. Also, for parties greater than 150 your separated a little by a step? I called to have them explain it to me..the woman assured me it works out fine.

Ya part of the room is raised, so it is a little higher up than the rest. I don't think that would be an issue. To respond to one of the PP, the ballroom is obviously yours to use, but they do have an outside patio area that is not private...i am sure there won't be a lot of people there during a slower time, but when we went (a saturday in July) it was crowded and I wasn't a huge fan of that. The package prices I looked at with the brochure she gave me were $150+ pp.
