New to The Knot

Hi ~ I have the 911 by the knot on my iPhone but I am new the website, any tips or suggestions before I start snooping and figure it out the hard way. :) I am getting married on August 7th, 2010 in Sacramento although I don't have a venue yet and I am a little discouraged. We are looking for a casual yet elegant venue for 80-100 people. Any venue ideas besides the popular norm? I need to have the reception in doors because of the heat.

Hi! Welcome!  I'm Aimee and my FI is Mark.  We're getting married October 2, 2010 in Coloma, but we live in Sac.  I think it depends on how much DIY you plan to do or what look you're going for.  There are several really pretty community center type buildings that are non-descript and can be prettied up to look however you want - but you'd definitely need vision and the ability to be crafty.  And it depends on your budget.  There are lots of places that would fit 80-100 people.  Definitely try to look up community centers.  If you have a higher budget, you could try the museums or historic homes in Old Sacramento.

I'm from Sacramento too... I am having my wedding at the Delta King... they have their own kitchen, so the price they charge usually includes food, plus most of the decor comes with. Also, if you work it right you can get some freebies. We got our ceremony for free and we also get to stay overnight on the boat. The food is delicious and they are VERY easy to work with. I don't know what kind of budget you have, but that's one place... There's also www.victorianroseville.com where I have attended some beautiful receptions (a friend and my sister) and their gardens are beautiful.... They have a price page where they will do the ceremony, food, dj, minister and a bunch of other stuff for $5,000. The only reason I didn't choose this place is because my sister was married there and I wanted my own memories.... anyway, hope that helps some!

Are you willing to go outside Sacramento into the 'burbs or the hills?  As to be expected, options increase if you increase the area :)
