We have to give the church $225, the music director $150, and each alter boy $15.

I just love how it's a "donation", but they tell you how much is required.

I believe it's the posters here who are calling the set church fees "donations" - not the churches themselves. At least mine doesn't call it a donation. ($450, not including the marriage prep seminars.)

Then again, there could be some churches out there that are like those museums that have a "suggested donation" for entry. You technically don't have to pay the price given, but it's probably a good idea to do so if you can afford it, or the staff will give you the stinkeye. ;)

Ours was a "suggested donation" of $200, which I felt was really reasonable considering what I hear other churches charge...the music was separate/extra.  I wanna say $100 or $150...

Although it turned out when we went to pay the priest, he wouldn't accept the donation anyway, which was kind of odd. He is no longer with that parish lol....

Our church calls it a "donation" too, and doesn't specify the amount - so this thread is really helpful for me. I think the organist has a set fee though.
