New York-Hudson Valley

...

My fiance and I just got engaged!!  We actually stayed at The Castle on the Hudson (TOTALLY out of our price range) the night of our engagement....he proposed to me on a hike up...at the top of Anthony's nose.

We live in New Jersey and LOVE the Hudson Valley.  We would like to do a fall 2011 wedding.  Our list is 150 people and we just started to look at venues.  We are open to venue ideas in hudson valley, north/central/south jersey, long island, etc.  Just looking for some affordable venue suggestions.

Congratulations on your engagement.   Fall in the hudson valley is beautiful.  It is also prime wedding time so places book quick.  I'm not trying to discourage you, just being honest that you'll want to book things like ceremony & reception venue, photographer and DJ  as soon as you can.

It is definitely doable in your price range.

You'll get some great recommendations on this board.

    Here are mine

    Happy Planning!

We are having our ceremony and reception at La Triestina in Congers. It is a restaurant. They have a gazebo out in the back and a tent where the reception can be held. Check it out. Their prices were the best we found and the food is outstanding.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

What an amazing place to spend the night you got engaged!

Quick question - $18K is that your venue budget? Or your entire wedding budget?

And like Bat said, Fall is a very popular time in the hudson valley.

Anyway, there are so many venues in the area!

Check out these websites to get a good idea of the variety:

    www.hudsonvalleyweddings.com

    http://www.weddingsitesandservices.com/New_York/ReceptionSites/Bronx_Westchester_Rockland.html

    and the knot's page at:
    http://www.theknot.com/Vendors/Hudson-Valley-Wedding-Venues/Profiles/CAR/074

We had our reception at Putnam National Golf Club (Jean Jacques is the caterer)  and we had a fabulous time!

Now that we know the area of your wedding, what type of venue are you looking for?

    traditional catering hall?
    golf / country club?
    everything at a hotel?
    something more unique?

IF $18K is your venue budget, this is what I posted a coouple of months a go for someone wanting to stay in the $100 pp range:

(Reasonable priced venues on the east side of the river: )

This is what I posted a few months back for someone who was looking to stay in the $100 range:

Here are some places in Dutchess: The Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel, Christos, The Links in Lagrangeville, Villa Borghese, Arbor Ridge, Fishkill Holiday Inn, Dutchess Manor.

In Putnam: Putnam National Golf Club! (That's where we are getting married:) Villa Barone (on Fridays and Sundays they will fit your budget). Also look into Chalet on the Hudson in Cold Spring.

In Danbury: Danbury Plaza Hotel, Anthony's Lake Club, And check to see if Ethan Allen hotel is having any specials.

In Northern Westchester: Ceola Manor, Hollowbrook Golf club, Colonial Terrace, Mount Kisco Holiday Inn.

These are all traditional ballroom settings, there are also a host of restaurants with banquet rooms that would fit as well. Not sure what you are looking for, but hope this helps.

    Good luck! Hope this helps!

Also, I’m not sure where they are looking, but Jean Jeacques caterers (the caterer we are using at Putnam National Golf Club) at a bunch of their locations has a Saturday minimum of only 50 people. And Putnam has a gorgeous room for smaller weddings.

We (or more so I) looked at all the places (and more) that I listed above, so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

    Good luck!

Check out Apple Barn Farm or Oak Hill, Livingston Estate. Both located in or near Hudson, NY. They both have rustic barns, but one is a little more elegant than the other. Both are the same price I believe.

Forgot to mention the Rt 66 Farmhouse which is a cheaper venue & is on the Apple Barn Farm website.

Yes, this is what I was going to suggest. Pretty nice place, and very reasonably priced. I believe I was quoted for around $85-90 pp, and it was easy to customize what you want or need.

    Congrats!

    Congrats!!

Check out Chalet on the Hudson.  Amazing food & prices.  Plus they will do a tasting where most places won't.  Another added bonus....1 event per day!

If you want something more rustic and laid back I'd suggest the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY.  It's not a huge hall like the Poughkeepsie Grand but it's a very quaint location, feels a lot more intimate, and you can choose to have an entire weekend wedding under your budget (yep!).  I'm getting married there this spring and everyone has been super nice.  Also, the Full Moon has been featured on the Martha Stewart wedding website and one of her people got married there. Good luck with your search!
