I don't drink red wine. So I need some help deciding which kind to get for the wedding. Question #1- The guide says to get 12 bottles of red (for 100-150 ppl) Should I get 6 of cabernet and 6 of merlot?Question #2- If I only pick one red, which one should I go with? Cabernet or Merlot?Thanks girls!!

    Say no to merlot!    Stick with cabernet or pinot noir for reds.  If you have to choose only one, you can't go wrong with either.

    There are some local sweeter red wines--that could be a fun way to feature SJ in your wedding.  I know Valenzano in Shamong has one called Shamong Red and Tomasello in Hammonton has a few as well (Cape May Red and Ranier Red).  Other than that i agree with PP about staying away from Merlot!

    I think Renault Winery and/or Tomasello Winery have cranberry and blueberry wines, which are definitely sweeter as pp said.

    If you live near Glassboro, there is a wine store called Hops and Grapes and the guys there no everything there is to know about wine.....I'm a fan of most reds but I would have no clue what to suggest for a wedding. We host a wine festival every year and they help us pick the wine and they gave us a lot of GREAT bottles for around $7 and you get a discount for cases but even if you just go there to research it's helpful

    Oh and I would aske around about the 12 bottles for 100 people...that doesn't seem like alot...we had a wine festival of 40 people and went through 35 bottles of wine

    I'm guessing her guide said 12 bottle of red and 12 of white. which seems appropriate for 100 people IMO.  (5 glasses per bottle x 24 bottles = 120 glasses of wine)  People who attend a wine festival will be there specifically for wine, which is why the ratio of bottles to people is so high.  Not every guest will be drinking wine at a wedding.

    One of the best and most affordable wines that is my go-to red is a Cabernet by Woodbridge. It's like $11 or so for hte 1.5 Liter bottle. I agree with nygirl07, Hops n Grapes is awesome - fantastic selection, best prices I've ever seen, and very helpful.

    Erin: I'm pretty sure that's the same wine we always get :)I guess that sounds right on how many to buy, wine is our big thing in the fall and winter so don't go by us b/c I would end up buying 100's of bottles :)

    Another rec for helpful staff is the Canal's at the Rt 70/73 circle in Marlton. They helped us choose our wine for our rehearsal dinner and our wine bottle guest book and they did a fabulous job. We gave them a budget and they stuck to it and gave us a great variety for the RD based on the food was being served, etc. Their expertise made us feel more comfortable in choosing wines for a large diverse group. They may also be able to help confirm your estimates. Good Luck!!

    The best red wine I have ever tasted is Beaujolois by George Debouff (France). Its about $10.00 a bottle and is delicious. Its dry and sweet at the same time. Your wedding guests will enjoy it, it's the perfect celebration red wine. Hope this helps. I have tasted many wines, and have been to numerous wine countries. Great buy.
