Spoke with my dad this morning and we worked out a solution to the crappy move made by my mother... Dad will pay for the balance at the reception. Regardless of what mom says, dad says they will live up to their committment. I told dad that FI and I will pay him back. He said we will work it out...

You guys are being awfully snotty. She's wrong if she asks for money, wrong for not having it in hand when she was planning, blah blah blah. Good grief. Ok I was too late to comment on the first post but how did you get so close to your wedding without having to pay a lot of the money already? Our venue needs to be 75% paid off 90 days in advance. It seems odd that they'd give you until the wedding day to cough up the $30K.

We had to put about 30% for a deposit for our reception. The balance is not due until just a few days before the wedding. I don't know how common that is...
