Vent: Hilton in Sedona

Be warned: I am in the last days of planning and so everything is seeming like a REALLY big deal to me recently... FI and I booked our honeymoon here back in June, and they were super helpful. Now that we are a month out, FI called to confirm that everything was set. They then quoted him DOUBLE the price than when we booked. When he told them, they said that we must have misunderstood. I find this hard to believe, since I called initially and was quoted a price, FI and I discussed it, then he called a few days later, was quoted the same price, booked it, and tried to pay for it. They told him that he couldn't pay until the time of service. We both talked to the same woman in sales. She may very well have meant to quote us a different price, but the fact is, the price she quoted us is not what they are trying to charge us now. I called a few days ago and she told me I was wrong, that she would have never quoted me what she did. So I called corporate Hilton, and they opened a case and sent it to the manager of the Sedona Hilton. He wrote back again saying that we are wrong and they will not honor the original price. We are both college students - we would NEVER have booked a hotel at the price they are quoting us now. I think it is terrible customer service to not try at all to rectify it. I realize they would take a loss, but it seems like comp-ing two nights on someone's honeymoon would be worth it. FI and I had even planned to make a tradition out of going there on our big anniversaries. Now we are a month out and the hotels in Sedona are more booked and the sales that were here a few months ago are gone. We are going to have to find somewhere else though, since there is just no way we could afford to stay at the Hilton now. Ok, vent over. :) Any advice or recommendations?

Oh.my.god!  The SAME thing happened to me at the Fairmont Princess in Scottsdale (or a similar situation)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I thought it was like a major fluke of the internet gods when I booked or something!  I booked the wedding night suite online back in July, quoted a price in the mid $100 range (when most hotels in Phx/autumn season are in the mid $200+ range) and so I was wowed by the great location, price, etc!  Booked it.  Got the confirmation email it said it was for that day in JULY, NOT 11/7!  I was like I did not book a hotel for the same day I booked it, it very specifically checked it said 11/7-11/8 (I was very OCD about booking that and honeymoon dates!)!  Called them, they claimed they had no idea what happened but could not honor that rate.  Of course then when I logged back on it was price $300+.  When I had checked it several weeks before I had booked and was nice $100 range, which is ultimately why I booked there!  So they gave us a slight discount in the mid $200, but it is still $100 more than we were intending to spend, but had no choice because all of the hotels were that price by that point.  I am sorry, good luck with your situation.  :-(

I am sorry to hear about this! Have you checked any of the bed and breakfasts in Sedona. I stayed in a B&B in February over Valentine's Day and it was cute...didn't have the same amount of amenities as a hotel, but there was awesome food and a great staff. We met quite a few other couples, but yet had quite a bit of time to ourselves as well. It was called Casa Sedona. I have stayed at the Sedona Hilton before and found the B&B to be just as nice. Good luck!

Oh no.  That completely sucks.  Is there any way you might have something in writing from them?  You should talk to a manager, and if you do, make sure you give him the dates and person you spoke to each time. Can you believe we are a month out?  I'm freaking and I couldn't sleep last night.

So sorry this happened to you! I would write reviews on every site like TripAdvisor, etc. We are planning a wedding n Sedona and are planning to stay at Sedona Rouge. It's very nice, chic and romantic.

Unfortunately, nothing is in writing because it was all done over the phone. I took extensive notes, and I even have it written explicitly what they are charging us for four nights twice in my notes, but they continue to tell me I was wrong and misunderstood. The manager of the whole hotel won't budge even a little bit. I kind of feel like we got scammed, actually. Especially since FI tried to pay for the whole thing when we booked it and they wouldn't let him. We would have gone for the honeymoon, stayed the four nights, and then been slapped with a HUGE bill when we left. Is the B&B very private? It sounds fun but I worry that we won't get enough time to ourselves. Kelly - I cannot believe we are less than a month out! I feel like I'm going downhill on a rollercoaster! You? I'm excited and it's what I want, but there's no stopping it at this point and that's kind of scary!

Personally I would refuse to stay there to make a statement about the customer service.  Whatever happened to "the customer is always right?"  There is a great book called Arizona Getaways for the Incurably Romantic, and it has honest reviews of b&b's, inns, and small hotels. They will indicate if the place was private, or if the other guests or hosts are a little too welcoming :)  Here is a list of ones in Sedona that they recommend.Adobe Grand VillasAdobe Village Graham InnAlma de Sedona InnApple Orchard InnBriar Patch InnCanyon VillaEnchantment ResortForest Houses ResortInn at Oak CreekL'Auberge de SedonaLodget at SedonaI would explain your situation to them, and maybe they can give you a room at the rate the Hilton promised.  Everyone is wiling to make deals in this economy.  You can find the book at Barnes and Noble or online if you want to read their reviews.

I'm sorry to hear that! How frustrating?! We are having our wedding at Los Abrigados in the Tlaquepaque Village in Sedona and I highly recommend it. If you decide to check it out or book it, ask to talk to Ronnie Moore and tell him that I referred you. (Sarah Mangan) It's a great private setting. It's a timeshare property, so the rooms are more like condos and there are a ton of amenities. Sedona Rouge is also really nice, but right on the main road and we prefer to be closer to nature. The rooms are really cool though. Good luck with your decision, and congrats on being so close to your big day!

Mal -It is a roller coaster.  I'm freaking out about seating and nothing else right now.  We'll get there and it will be great.

Kelly - People keep telling me it is all ok, and to remember at the end of the day, "I will be married to the man of my dreams and that's all that matters". This is not helping me. I could have done a JOP wedding months ago and still have been married to the man of my dreams. Obviously, I care about more than that. :) I think this is my decreasing patience as the day gets closer.
