Good news: We have an accepted contract, all contingencies resolved. They're fixing most of the little stuff, and crediting us another $500 at closing, AND it failed the Laclede gas inspection and the electrical in the city inspection (sounds bad right?), so we're getting a brand new furnace and electrical panel.  I'm pretty stoked.  We accepted it right away :)  Now we just have to wait and worry about FHA stuff and hope it goes well.  Bad news: DH's grandmother died last night, so the wake and funeral and other stuff will take up most of the weekend, so I don't think it's a good time to go shopping, but seriously we'll do it soon!

  • Oh no, I'm so sorry about your H's grandmother :(But, I'm glad everything is working out with the house! That's awesome, and FHA was a PITA but it was mostly little things, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. This weekend probably would have been difficult for me anyways, we're planning on getting most of the painting done and I think H would have flipped a little if I had skipped out to go shopping ;) Some other time though, definitely!

  • Thanks, she was 97, and had breast cancer, 2 broken hips, and alzheimers, so it wasn't shocking, but I'm still so sad for MIL.  DH wasn't all that close to her, but of course it's still really sad. Good luck on the painting! I'm jealous but hopefully I'll be covered in paint soon! Also I finally convinced DH that we've been responsible for so long regarding getting a puppy (waiting until a house and a yard, etc.) that we can finally get one right after we get settled in! I'm so excited, I thought we were going to wait until spring so it would be warmer, but I want a dog NOW!

  • Well, 97 years is a long time, so it sounds like she had a great life surrounded by people who loved her. Heh, so it seems like we might be getting a puppy around the same time too. It'll be interesting, but Pete has wanted one for so long, I couldn't make him wait much longer. Do you know where you're going to start looking for one?

  • Whichever shelter we find first :)  Preferably one that has a relatively low adoption fee.  We don't have a particular breed in mind, so there's no reason not to adopt.

  • ::butting-in::TLV - I just wanted to recommend perhaps going to the Pets board on the next (gasp!) - there might be some STL ladies there with recs on the shelters in the area. Just thought I'd mention it :)

  • That's probably a good idea! We already look at petfinder obsessively, but seriously I'm so excited I'll take all of the puppies from a box outside of walmart. I'll take any puppy from anywhere :)

  • I know it's a little bit of a hike, but you should check out the St Charles Humane Society, it's a no kill shelter and they treat their animals extremely well. They aren't kept in crates or cages all day so they are really well socialized.

  • DH's parents live in St. Charles, so I'm sure we'll be out there soon enough :)
