There are some B&Bs if you are looking for an outside wedding.  Earlystown Manor is one (its in Centre Hall which is like 10 minutes from State College.

I haven't heard good things about that B&B, just fyi. What kind of wedding is she looking to have, exactly? rustic, classic, etc?

Really I don't think she knows haha-- probably more classic and elegant. She is from around here, but they met there at a conference and got engaged there so I am just trying to help give her some options that she can check out.

The Elks Club in Boalsburg, if the wedding is smaller then I definitely recommend Seven Mountains Winery (www.sevenmountainswinecellars.com).  There are a few gorgeous B&Bs, I liked The Rock Garden, Inn at Walnut Acres, and Reynolds Mansion.  If you have anymore questions let me know, I think I might have looked at every venue within 30 miles of here.  We ended up choosing Toftrees because it had everything that we wanted.

Ok Ok, I am jcra05's sister and I'm the one she is trying to help out! haha.  I want an elegant and classic wedding. I plan to look at the nittany lion inn, the penn stater and toftrees.  I will check into those B&Bs that were mentioned.  Any suggestions on DJ's/Band's?  Florists? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I haven't booked either yet, but I have had great recommendations for djs.  Nittany Entertainment and Dale Helfrich (I think) are supposed to be great djs.  If you need a cake try Delectable Delights by Heather Luse.  I've heard amazing things and she will be doing mine.

General FYI: There are a lot of places for smaller wedding, and many of them can accommodate bigger weddings outside.  In our search, though, we found very few inside vendors that can accommodate a large wedding (though if you're looking for a smaller shindig, there's a ton of nice places). But to actually answer your question, our runners up were the Atherton Hotel and the Ramada Inn.  Both were really surprisingly nice and the coordinators there were great.  While we ended up going with Toftrees, I'd definitely suggest looking at those two venues.

I just went to an outdoor wedding at Earlystown Manor and it was beautiful.  But as far as indoor locations go, Toftrees and the places on campus (NLI and Penn Stater) are by far the most expensive places in State College.  They are classy, though, so if you can afford it, it's nice.  Plus, if you're a hard core Penn Stater, you can have your reception in the stadium (through the Penn Stater).  Ramada Inn, Days Inn, Atherton Hotel are all similar and a little less expensive, they do weddings all the time and have various packages to pick from.  Celebration Hall is a banquet facility only (no hotel attached).  I'm having my reception at the Elks Club - it's very reasonably priced, it has a nice sized banquet room that's more unique than a square ballroom, a great patio with a fantastic view, and the events coordinator is fantastic!I'm a State College townie - lived here for 24 years - so I know the area pretty well!  Let me know if you have any more specific questions to the area :-)

We're going with Toftrees, and it is elegant all the way! The staff gives you your own DOC... so that's nice. Price depends on what you want. Cheapest package I believe is $40 a head, and it climbs upwards from there. They will decorate themselves to your specifications (they already have materials you can use free of charges, such as votives, mirrors, vases, etc), and they will clean up everything after the reception is over and load it in the car for you! (And packages include a night for you and new hubby at the resort. No driving anywhere!) As you can tell, I'm kind of excited. It's going to be worth it. :) Good luck!

Will the Nittany Lion Inn, Penn Stater, and Atherton Hotel do my ceremony and reception or just the reception?  We are going to visit sometime and of course I would ask this question then but I was just wondering.

If the wedding isn't too large, I would definitely second the Atherton.  The lobby area is so pretty for the cocktail hour & I never had a complaint about the food there for all of the events I went to during college.  Same with the Days Inn.

I'm not sure about ceremonies in the places you mentioned, but I know you can definitely have one at Toftrees. And just a note about the prices.  Toftrees actually ended up being cheaper than the Atherton and the ballroom at the Ramada; we ended up with a great deal and an open bar.  It just depends what package you choose.  Make sure you look at all your options before you write anything off.

DH and I were married at Toftrees with the reception to follow last year. We really loved having everything at one place and nobody having to drive that night. We looked at Tussey (you can have everything there as well) but we were not at all impressed. They don't decorate at all for you (Toftrees did everything) and there were bees inside when we toured the place, um ew!

We LOVED Tussey.  Christie is fantastic & we had a lovely reception there.  The views are wonderful. As for a florist - Stephanie from Woodrings - hands down.  We got exactly what we wanted and they are so reasonably priced compared to the other florists in the area.
