I got sucked in to BB&Beyond online today!

We (he was in the same room but had very little opinion) registered for like 30-40 things at bed bath and beyond dot com today. Do you think this is overkill? We are inviting about 130 people. We also have also told close family that we would really like things of our registries for the holidays rather than most knick knacks and such. Is that horrible?

  • I don't think that is too many at all, and a little word of mouth that you would appreciate things off your registry for the holidays won't send you to etiquette Hell.
  • We have a LOT on our registries...but there are a lot of little very affordable things that people might end up grouping together, we have over 170 on our guest list, and we are having 2 showers plus I think my workplace might throw a shower. So we wanted to make sure there were enough options and a variety of items and prices for people.
  • I think you need to order for at least 50-75 more gifts. You should have enough gifts for people not only for the wedding but also for the bridal shower.
  • we just registered last night at the store and their theory is you need 2-3x more gifts than invitations.  They told us (dont believe its true) that a couple will spend $50 on a gift.   I guess it depends on how much you registered for in terms of dollar amount.  If you registered for 30-40 $3-$5 kitchen items then I think you didnt register for enough.
  • Definitely not overkill. We're expecting around 450 guests and people are telling me to register for 2-3x as many gifts as guests. I mean, seriously. That's over 1,000 items. Long story short, feel free to beef it up more. People LOVE being able to just go to your registry and pick your gift because they know it's something you want. Make sure you include items of varying price points, too. Also, great idea for the holiday gifts. We registered at Williams-Sonoma and half the fun is all their seasonal bakeware, etc. I told my mom to scoop all the fall items up off our W-S registry now if she wanted because they won't be available much longer and she lovvves shopping early.
  • everyone complained that we didn't have enough on ours.  i don't think you can have too much.  do a few different places too.  a lot of people complained we didn't have enough "nice" expensive stuff for the people who wanted to get something fancier than BBB.  you're not going to get everything off the registry but it's good to put more than you think you need and let people have some variety of type of gift, price level, etc.
