October 2012 Weddings

She's gone..

Well, after a lot of back and forth, we decided to sell FI's motorcycle Frown.  It needed new tires, at his cost (he's an auto tech so he gets discounts) it would have been $500.  We had to have our dog into the vet for 2 emergency surgeries last month at a total cost of just over $3,000.  We couldn't afford to put new tires on it this year and he says he was going to trade it in towards something different in the spring anyways.  We had it listed for $3,500, realizing that we would get closer to $2,800 once we factor in the cost of someone needing to pay for tires, so we were negotiable on that.  We ended up selling it for $2,500 last night.  We tried selling it a couple years ago, but I knew that he didn't want to and he was only doing it to try and pay for a ring.  It broke my heart everytime someone came to look at it.  So I finally told him he was crazy and I deleted the ad for it.  We were going to keep it.  He was so happy.

This year has been financially tough on us.  Everything that could pop up, has.  My car died twice, the dogs surgeries, stuff around the house.. it never ends.  We sold the bike to the first guy that looked at it.  FI didn't want to risk not getting another offer, and we were strapped, big time.  I just feel so bad.  I know he says he was going to trade it in in the spring so he might as well get what he can out of it now, cause a dealer would have given him less, but it sucks and I still feel awful.

Re: She's gone..

  • I'm so sorry! That has to be ridiculously tough. Maybe after the wedding and all the crap you guys can get a new one. Either way, that really sucks and I'm sorry you guys had to do that.

  • maybe you can secretly make a coin jar so eventually you can give him some money to buy another? and maybe for his bday and holidays put in it what you would have spent on him? and maybe a small percentage if you end up getting money for the wedding??? Just an idea.. and it will make him know that you truely feel sorry about it. I know exactly what you mean about the crazy financial year I also went through that.. and my dog got extremely sick and was in a puppy ICU (who know they even had that) anyway the only thing that saved us there is that they hey this care credit that you could put the bill on a credit and pay it off monthly... I am sorry that you are going through this.. its frustrating!

  • Bummer.  I agree, just get past the wedding and starting your lives together then start a fund jar to get a new one!!

  • That's such a great idea ladies!  I know he'll love it!  Thanks

@Cathryn4: We don't have a savings account currently, with everything that's been popping up, it's been depleted.  We also used the care credit option.  I'm just hoping to pay it off within the promotional period so that we save all that interest!

  • I feel your pain.  I went through financial woes for several years and it gets veyr stressful.  Just now that if you continue to work hard and make good decisions, it will get better.  It took me about 3 years to get into a good financial situation and it seemed like there was always one thing or another going wrong.

    Keep your head up!

  • Sorry to hear, we had to sell ours a few years back and I miss it sometimes. The ladies above had a great idea about doing a coin jar, and maybe one day you can get a new one. :)
