Hi there, I read your response to my registry post and was wondering about your Target registry experience. I am considering using them since I want to give our guests one place that offers some more affordable gifts. We were also planning to register at Macy's and BB&B

Hi!Target registry--  We only created a registry and then immediately deleted it due to our concerns regarding the return policy and what I had read as warnings from other brides. Here's where the return policy gets really sticky.  You're able to return up to $70 to any Target location without a receipt or it showing as purchased on your registry.  So basically, if you want to return a gift and don't have a receipt, then you can just use your registry-- they will look up the purchase for you.  This seems really good, but interpret the unspoken scenario-- which is where the problem for many other brides has occured. The biggest problem arrises in this scenario: When something gets purchased and the checkout person doesn't properly scan it off the registry--  I have personally purchased gifts for others off of registries and have even had employees lie to me saying they did it right, and that it was updated on the registry.   So- if that happens to one of your gifts, you're likely to get duplicates.  If you want to return the duplicate without a receipt it's ok, because one WAS purchased off the registry and they can use the registry one as the reciept.    Now, what happens when you end up with 2 duplicates, and the item is valued at over $70?  You will not be able to return the 2nd duplicate, and you'll be stuck.  So- think really hard about registering with them.  A Target associate was the one I mentioned lying to me about scanning an item properly-- I guess it's easier to lie that to call a manager to fix it.  I had to stand in line at customer service to get it resolved, which then required returning the lamps I had purchased, and re-creating the sale properly.. I bet there was a better way for them to correct the transaction but I think the average training recieved is insufficient for both customer service and cashiers.  The effect on my bank account was a delay in getting my refund but the second charge showed up right away-- surely the bank is partially at fault there, I doubt it's strictly Target. The Target manager on duty during our registry creation assured us there would be no problems because we can use the registry as the receipt-- but only if the item is marked as purchased on the registry.  So- there's the reason we were scared away-- that and a lot of really bad reviews from brides regretting the registry. I guess you've got to ask yourself if you trust your registry to the underpaid cashier trainee that might be ringing up your guests.Want another low-cost option for your guests?  Check out Kohl's or JC Penney.  We finally decided on Kohl's as our 2nd registry, along with BB&B which seems to have the absolute best prices on china.Hope this helps!!

thanks so much for the info!! I bought a wedding gift for someone off their Target registry....and at the shower two other people brought the same gift! I wondered how it is that THREE people could have bought the same gift off of a registry! Khol's is a good suggestion, I'll look into that. :o)
