opinions please- semi long

So i will be having a gap of about 2 hours inbetween my wedding and reception. Becasue of this we have reserved a Hospitalty room at the hotel where most of the out of town guests are staying and where the shuttle to reception is picking people up. We plan on having some light snacks and drinks in the room.My FML mentioned to me this weekend she wants to have pizza for people at her house during this gap becasue people wont eat lunch before the wedding ( mass is at 2pm). I'm afraid that people will fill up on pizza at her house and wont want to eat all the hourdouves and dinner we have paid for and it would be a waste. Before i go and talk to her about it, i wanted to get other people opinions to see if im over reacting or not. I just dont want to waste the  money on exceptional food if people aren't going to eat it. So am i just over reacting?

If I were going to a 2pm wedding, I would've eaten lunch beforehand. I don't think MIL needs to get pizza. If she wants to take over what would happen at the hotel -- drinks and snacks -- I think that would be fine and might be a nice option in someone's home. If you prefer the idea of having it at the hotel, or if MIL's house is not conveniently located to the church or reception, maybe you can tell her you'd prefer to keep your initial plans.

I agree with Tara.  I can't see why someone wouldn't eat lunch before a 2pm wedding (I know I would!).  That being said, if there's free food around, people will usually eat it, hungry or not.  However, if they're eating all afternoon (FMIL's house, hospitality room, etc.) then they aren't going to each much of their dinner - and that typically costs a good deal more than the other stuff.

I think you should just stick with snacks and finger foods. I agree, that I would not want people filling up on pizza and not eating their expensive dinner at the reception. Especially since you are having hors'douvres!

we had 3 hours in between and my parents and DH's aunt both had get togethers with food. no one was too full to eat our family style dinner at the reception.i honestly think you are thinking about it too much plus your FMIL can have whatever she wants at her house. you really don't get a say in it.

Went to a wedding this past weekend that was at 2pm, I actually didnt have time to eat before because I came from OOT and couldnt get there any earlier, and we went to the MILs house for food after the ceremony (like pizza, sandwiches, pasta salad etc) and then went to the reception (started at 630), def not too much food! - I was definitely able to eat dinner - and agree with PP - you really cant tell FMIL what to serve at her house - dont worry!! everything will turn out great!
