Key West wedding

Planning a destination wedding in Key West summer of 2011. I am not really sure where to start. Does anyone have any tips?

Re: Key West wedding

  • WELCOME!!! I am also a 2011 DW bride :) I don't have tips for Key West, a few girls are getting married there in the within the next year so we will be able to get a lot of tips and feed back from them. Our first decision for our DW was the location. We are tying the knot in Cozumel, MX at the Melia Cozumel. We are lucky enough to have already planned a trip down there so we will be able to see the resort before we make any official plans!! GL

  • Hi and welcome! I'm a Key West bride as well, March 13, 2010 for me. :) Congrats to you! I think the best place to start is budget. You've already picked the general location, so now you need to figure out how much you can spend on your venue. Key West has plenty of options with hotels that can help plan your ceremony and reception. Some provide the info on their website, some you have to email for a quote/info sheet. If you are looking for something smaller, you can book the ceremony/officiant separately, and then look into some of the restaurants for your reception. Many of them have private rooms which are very nice. With a DW you have so many more options. You could have your reception on the beach if you want, or you can do like AlaskanAlison (she'll probably chime in soon too :)) and have your RD on a catamaran! That was a lot of info, but if you have any other questions feel free to shoot me an email. :) kadefilio at gmail dot com Good luck and happy planning!

  • Hi and welcome! I'm a Key West bride. It can be pretty overwhelming when you first start planning. KW is a pretty popular place for weddings, so you have to sort through about a billion options. Like Katie said, start with a budget. KW can be pretty spendy, so know in advance how much money you're looking to spend. There are a ton of hotels that do weddings, and there are also a ton of planners that do pre-priced wedding-package type deals where they provide an officiant, photographer, bouquet, etc and you just pick where you want the ceremony. Most people who go with this option choose to have their reception in a restaurant (not usually included in your ceremony package). It's just going to take awhile to sort through everything to find what you're looking for. We are going with a package from Soiree Key West, having the ceremony on Smathers Beach and then having the reception on a catamaran.Let us know if you have any questions!
  • Im also a key west bride, and we are having our wedding at Southernmost resort in May 2010. I found them to be the most reasonable however other vendors can add up so budget is key. HTH!
  • Hi Ladies- I am new here. I am planning a DW in Key West for January 2011- and we are also thinking about Southernmost on the Beach for the accomodations/ceramony and a catamaran for the reception. Would love to hear everyone's ideas and advice, as I am trying to plan from Eastern Canada and have never been to the Keys!
  • Looking for all-inclusive resort in Key West....I do not want a beach wedding, but in a nice garden with a gazebo. Any suggestions?

  • Getting married in key west June 2014, having a hard time with reception areas that won't break the bank. Any ideas?
  • I'm looking to do the Keys also. Everyone keeps saying "key west." do you all mean the keys in general or just Key West? I've been looking at Islamorada which is one of the keys closer to the mainland.
  • I'm also getting married in Key West on July 13 2014. We are having our ceremony and reception at the Reach. The Reach has a nice gazebo for the ceremony and they also offer inside ballrooms, which is where we are having the reception. The Hemingway House & Audubon House are both reasonably priced but the addition of other vendors can really add up!
