Changing your name!

Okay, so I have 12 (yes TWELVE) days left until I'm a "Mrs."After that, I'll be on my honeymoon, and then I have a little time that I could run around and change my name.Any tips?  What's the process like?  Where do I start and how long does it take?Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks  :-)

Wow, your getting close... start at social security office, you can't change your license until your ss card is changed. Then license then cc's etc..

And be prepared to spend some time at the social security office.  I went in last week and spent over an hour before they called my number.  They told me I would receive a new one in the mail in about a week.  Then I guess it's off to the RMV.  Fun!

Has anyone had reservations about changing their name? I really like my name. I'm very close with my mom and we have the same last name. I don't have siblings, so it ends with me. I've thought about hyphenating, but that just doesn't appeal to me. Not look for advice, just wondering how others felt about it.

when i went to SS i had barely sat in my seat before they called my # so i guess it all depends. you have to start there, then the registry then everything else. Your bank needs your new license and CC's dont need any proof. Work needs your new SS card. If you have a joint bank account already you both have to re-sign the signature card. Some people have had trouble going to SS and the RMV the same day - my clerk hassled me but put it though anyway (they look up your ss, so if it hasnt 'gone thru' yet....) you only have 30 days from the date you are married to change benefits at work (other then your name change)

i went thru missnowmrs  website, paid $30, filled out all the forms, but it's really not worth it. It saves you some time, but you can get all the forms yourself. I mailed in my SS info and I just got my card after 3 weeks, I am going to the RMV today. After that i will do my passport. HTH

decka, to answer your question from yesterday - yes, I had reservations about changing my name!  I totally struggled with whether or not to do it.  I also don't like the hyphenating idea.  I'm going to keep my name and add his at the end.  Got the idea from an Ask Carley post.  Works for me!
