Finding a Photographer is driving me insane!!!

I have no idea what to do. I've been researching photographers to the best of my abilities and I feel like I'm getting no where. I have a limited budget for photography and trying to find one that's within my budget and takes decent pictures is more difficult then I imagined. It's not that there aren't any available, but trying to find out what their prices are is getting to be too much work. 90% of them won't tell you what their pricing is unless you contact them and even then, most of them want to set up a meeting. I don't have time for this! I work 60-70 hours/week, I'm finishing up my degree, and I have a 7 year old daughter. Is anyone else running into this issue? Does anyone know of a good photographer that costs $1300 or less? What I'm running into when I am finding one that is within my budget, they only shoot one location for a short amount of time. I've tried to bargain (I don't need 200 thank you card photos or an engagement photo session) and I'm not getting anywhere! HELP!!!

I would recommend contacting Solas Photography.  I used them and I absolutely loved working with them! They were great about emailing back and forth, so if you don't have time to meet up with them a million different times, they can answer a lot of questions that way.  I will say that meeting with your prospective photographers is probably a good idea, if you do have the time.  It just helps you to find out if your personalities/styles mesh.  It can make a huge difference in your comfort level the day of the wedding and as a result, just makes for better experience overall - just a thought.  Anyway, they did a package for us that included an engagement pic session, rights to all photos and copies of photos on disc to print out/email/post to websites/ any way we choose, 8 hours of wedding day photography, 2 photogs (they are husband and wife team).  I don't know about the multiple location question - our wedding and reception was all at one site... but, I can tell you that they are super-flexible and willing to accomodate many different needs and wants. I honestly couldn't say enough positive things about them.  They are super-talented, very friendly and professional, and are a great value!  Their website is www.solasphotography.com (contact info. is on there too)  and they have samples on there.  I also posted further down about my pro pics being posted and gave info. about how to view then pics, if you wanted to see my wedding day photography.HTH!:)Emily

Have you tried looking at Craigslist? $1300 is hard to find if you want anyone really good. But you may be able to snag an up and comer who's starting out but has loads of talent.

I'm not sure what area you're in, but I'm using Abigal Nace out of Spring Grove (Hanover/York area).  Her prices are reasonable and listed on her website (http://www.nacephoto.com). She did my senior pics and my sister's wedding.  She's not the fanciest photographer around but she takes decent pictures.  She's easy to work with and very willing to accommodate your wishes.  At my sister's wedding she was even checking up on the head table/making sure our drinks were full ect. during the reception to make sure everything was going smoothly.

i would recommend Katie from Captured by Kate photography. the package that i got with her had an engagement session, unlimited wedding day time (and she went wherever we wanted), and all the pictures on CD/thumb drive from both with the rights to print. she is great about emailing and gets back to you in a very timely manner. if you want to look at the online album of my wedding that she did on september 5th, email me at steeser03 at yahoo dot com and i will give you the login info. also, if you tell her you were recommended by someone, she will give you a discount. she has been photographing for i believe six years but has recently started her own business. she is doing it without using any of her former clients or former work, which is why i was able to get her at such a low price. but she is amazing! she's very creative at what she does and she definitely doesnt make it into a photo shoot, she takes shots you dont even know shes doing. email me if you want more info! HTH!

We are going with Simple Life Portraits.  Dan and Rebecca seem to be cool and while they are slightly over 1300, they offer a lot in the packages.  You may be able to negotiate.

We've booked with The Susquehanna Photographic. You get 2 photographers for 10 hours for $1200. They've recently started their business together - so prices are good while they continue to build their portfolio. They've embraced our vision and I am really excited to work with them. Plus, you get rights to all your photos, you get a CD of everything, and you get a password protected online gallery for viewing.

I'm also searching for a photographer. Just thinking about your price range, check out Culp-Henise Photography. I don't know their work, but they have prices on their website www.culphenisephoto.com, so you might want to check them out. Let us know who you go with.
