DJs

How did you all decide on a DJ?  Did you seen them "perform"? Did they provide you with references?   I am extremely nervous about picking a DJ -- mostly because the last thing I remember from many of the weddings I have attended is how terrible the DJ was.  The problem is, I am not sure if that's what the bride and groom wanted, or if it was just the DJ.

I've heard awesome things about Mike Garassi from Music Man Entertainment, and I good friend of mine just went to a wedding he did and said it was awesome, unfortunately he was booked for our day so I'm still looking, but check him out.

I feel you get a pretty good idea of the DJ when you meet them.  If they click with you and understand your style then I think you have a good fit.  Also have them present to you what they normally do for a wedding to see if fits your style.  You can get references from them, but I'm sure they will only send you to the satisfied couples.  GL!

We picked ours based on word of mouth and couldn't have been happier! We had a meeting beforehand and discussed everything we wanted and didn't want and they assured us they would stick to it. And they did. Just ask around. Probably the best way to get a realistic review of a dj you may be considering.

Our DJ was recommended to us from another DJ that we wanted but who was unavailable...we sort of had blind luck. We went with Jimi Malone from Exceptional Receptions....we got a photobooth and uplighting too....he was incrediably attentive and offers some things that can really personalize the reception....He played music that kept folks on the dance floor and really was effective at pacing it to the crowd....he was well worth the cost but was definately more than others....We got tons of positive feed back from guests....I agree with earlier posts - meeting the dj helps - HTH.

Try Phenomenon Sound DJs.  I saw them perform at a bridal show and booked them immediately.  They are a blast and really get into the party.  They customize everything for you and part of their service is coordinating with vendors and helping to keep your reception on the timeline you desire.  They have a pretty large organization and stretch from Buffalo out to Syracuse and I think beyond.  You get to choose which of the djs you want (as long as they are still available for your date).  Because I booked so far out, I got my first choice.  I can't remember their exact website off the top of my head, but if you google Phenomenon Sound, it comes right up.

I second Mike Garassi.  He is our DJ for our wedding in 6 weeks and he is amazing to work with!
