worried about people staying through reception?

i wanted to to a sparkler sendoff after the reception.. but my friend is telling me that people usually leave a little bit after they eat.. We are having alcohol and a ton of food.. I would expect people to stay>>?? no?How do i keep people there? LolTIA

    We definitely had to throw people out of my sisters reception (not quite as rudely as it sounds but we actually had to tell them it was over), I really don't think you'll have a big deal, and if you're worried stick mention of your sendoff in your programs, no one can resist a sparkler!

    I think it just depends on how good your DJ/band is and the crowd at your wedding.  We had a band and a dancing crowd and the majority were still there at the end of the night when we did the sparkler sendoff.

    If people are having fun they stay if they are not they go. Sparklers are not going to make people stay if the DJ is lame and they are bored. I guess the best thing to do is make sure the energy is flowing all night. Make sure you talk to people, drag them out on the dance floor etc. The more social and upbeat the couple usually the more fun people have.

    Do you have an older crowd?  I find it is the older relatives that tend to leave early.  My friends are usually begging a good DJ/band for one more song.

    more so younger people.. a few older.. i wasnt really worried about it.. but then my friend mentioned that the weddings she'd been to didnt really have to many people at the end.. eh ill just hope for the best.Thanks guys!

    The way to get people to stay is make them wait for cake. All the weddings I have been to where I wanted to leave early, I definitely stayed just b/c of the cake. :o)
