Guestbook vs. Signature Mat

I've been going back and forth between the two.  On one hand, I'd like to have a pic of FI and I displayed and have everyone sign around it.  On the other, I like the idea of a guestbook in case someone wants to write more than their name...but then again, it'll probably never get opened again after the wedding.  Thoughts?  Experiences?

My photographer took our Epics and made a sign in book with them, and it turned out AMAZING.  You could easily make one yourself (Kodak, blurb, my publisher etc).  I love the book - I personally didnt want a sig mat & pic hanging, just NMS personally, and like you, wouldnt have opened a traditional guest book more then once or twice, but this is a really nice album with our epics, and Ive already read though it a few times.  Let me know if youd like a few pics :)

I really liked Steph's picture book...it was beautiful.  Jackie had one of those pictures that people sign around, but it wasn't a mat, it was silver and came with a special etching pen to "write" with.  It's really pretty.I'm just having a plain old guest book.  My mom got it for me from a garage sale, of all places.  The person never used it and it kinda goes with my stuff.  I'm fine with it.

Yes Steph, I'd love to see a few pics.  That's a really neat idea!  The best of both worlds, lol.

Another idea that you might think of is a signature plate.  My favorite is this website:http://serendipitycrafts.blogspot.com/They can customize a plate just for you- with your monogram, theme, saying, etc.  They have plates that they do that are considered "regular", where they have different designs that can still be customized (like your dress, flowers, etc).  Then they also have plates that can be completely customized with something you send them.  Their work is awesome, and they are on Etsy as well. The link above is their blog, where they put pics of every plate they have done.  You can get ideas of what they can do, and what you might like.  There are other Etsy sellers who do them as well, if their prices are not to your liking.  You can also get generic ones at places like Heart and Home in Pike Creek, or even AC Moore.  Or, you could make your own at someplace like The Painted Platypus or Everyday Artists (paint your own pottery places).I like the idea of a signature plate because you can hang it in your home, or have it displayed somewhere.  Unlike a book, this is actually seen and can be looked at often. If you do want a book instead, I liked Steph's book- it was really nice to flip through and look at the pics, and was the size and weight where you could keep it as a coffee table book.Just a thought- hope it helps keep the creativity flowing!!

I really like mine from idoengravables.com It is not too bold so it is nicely hung in our living room and people can go up and see the signatures/messages up close or just enjoy the silver matting from afar.

We did sort of a music theme, so I got an idea to get a black guitar and we used silver and gold metallic sharpies. It turned out better than I imagined! It sits on a guitar stand right in our living room so I get to see it everyday! You can really get creative. Do you have any type of theme?

MrsFranks, that's awesome- I really love that idea!  Can I ask where you got the guitar?  I think that is so cool, even if you aren't doing a music theme!I have also seen people do those giant Piggy Banks, which I thought was pretty neat.  My mom had a coworker friend who instead of doing the book or anything like that, she did a really big flower pot- she was really big into gardening, and they used it on their deck in their back yard.  She said every year they did different flowers, and it turned out really neat.Just goes to show that you can get your hobby/hobbies involved!

Also, one more that I have seen done that we are actually considering is a scrapbook guestbook.  Several ways you could do this:*Make the scrapbook, with pictures, ahead of time, leaving room for guest notes on paper.  Supply the guests with different color paper and pens, have them write their notes to you, and either place them in a basket, or let them place the notes in the scrapbook themselves (you would need an attendant for the later, so that the book doesn't accidentally get messed up).*Have a polaroid camera with different photo props (hats, mustaches on sticks, etc) for guests to take pics of themselves.  Then supply a book for them to put the pic in and write a note to you.  This one is nice so you know who wrote what (I know there are several of FI's family that I won't meet until our wedding, and may not remember who wrote what).*Have tables set up with scrapbooking supplies (cheap supplies, like stickers and the dollar stamps, and also different paper) and different pictures of your and FI, and let your guests design a page in your scrapbook.  I have heard of this being done during the wedding, which people say is nice because it gives them something to do, and I have heard people say it is bad because you don't know how it is going to go.  It's your prerogative. The later idea might be a better activity for a shower or b-party, but you can tweak both ideas to make them work for you however you choose.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!  I love the guitar idea :)  We are doing a cherry blossom theme for spring and I found a really pretty GB/pen set with the blossoms on them, but I'd really like to have something I can keep out, either hanging up or on the coffee table.  Thanks for the websites, I'm gonna go check them out!

Ms.BriarRose - We got it off of ebay. I looked around here at flea markets & garage sales, but most of them were pretty beat. I didn't want a great name but I did want something that looked nice. I think we got it for about $30.00-$40.00.

You can maybe find a picture of cherry blossom trees and have guests sign the picture or the frame around it & then you'll be able to hang it up somewhere. Also, Lenox makes a Cherry Blossom vase. I think it's a little pricey though.
