Big Busted Bride.... Help!

So I am struggling on what to do. I am a big busted bride (36 DDD (aka F)) and really don't want to deal with a bra since I am always pulling at them when I wear a strapless bra. I was wondering if any of my fellow busty brides have been able to get cups sewn into their dress. This is what I really want to do but unsure if I can.

Re: Big Busted Bride.... Help!

  • If you want to get a strapless dress, look for a dress with lots of boning or support. Those could help keep you up and comfortable. Cups can be sewn into almost everything pretty easily.

My sister, who is a little bigger than you, won't wear anything unless she can wear a non-strapless bra with it. So she only considers wedding dresses with straps so she can hide the bra straps. There are a ton of beautiful dresses with straps, in case you want to go that route.

The most important thing is you feel comfortable and confident. If the boning isn't able to make you feel confident, you'll be pulling on your dress all night.

  • Thanks matcha. I  already have my dress and it is strapless. If I have to go strapless I will. I also just don't want to have to spend $80 on a bra. That just kills me.

  • I had straps added to a strapless dress so I could wear a bra with straps.  I am a 38F and had concerns simliar to yours
  • I'm not quite as large, but I'm thinking about having a bra actually sewn into my dress. I've done it before, it's not a perfect solution but it works.

  • I had cups sewn into my dress, it also had a great deal of boning already.

This.  She added extra boneing on the side to help with support.
  • Mine's got some pretty serious boning to start with, and I'm pretty sure I'm going with cups sewn in (haven't been for alterations yet). I'm a 34DDD and even without the cups, everything was pretty well held in place, just needed a little lift. I'll go with a long-line bra if I have to, though.

  • What about a bra with clear straps?

  • Have you tried your dress on without a bra? I find that if they are altered properly, they have enough support. I am a 36 DD and I don't even need cups sewn into my (DB) dress. Also, your seamstress should be able to put them in temporarily so you can try it out. If all that fails, i would just go with a strapless or longline.

PS~ I also hate strapless bras. They are evil. :P

  • I would think if you had boning or a corsetted top and had cups put in, that would be enough.  Talk to them when you go for the first fitting, see what they can do and if not, you'd have time to get a bra.
I'm 34D and probably don't even need the cups... the top is pretty snug when it's all laced up, but I'm going to ask about it.... I'd feel more comfortable knowing there's something there.
