no ring for 2 weeks :(

had to take my ring in yesterday to get sized and dipped and dont get it back for 2 weeks!! im lost without it! on a more happy note..i exchanged my wedding band for a bigger one :) the one i had before was just too dainty for my hands. thought i would share how sad and lost i am without my ring!

Re: no ring for 2 weeks :(

  • I hear you completely. FI proposed with a "placeholder ring" (ha) and had to take mine back for a few weeks to switch the stone out into the actual band. My mom gave me my grandmother's ring to wear in its place, and I now wear it on my right hand :)Maybe you could find a fun or funky ring to wear in the meantime?
  • At first I was going to judge you for saying you're lost without it, but honestly, my rings have been needing a dip for about a month now and I haven't taken them in because I don't want to go 10 days without them. Lame.

  • What's a dip?

If I wanted to hear the pitter-patter of little feet, I'd put shoes on the cat. image

  • i think it is sad that you are lost without your ring.  i leave the house without mine and feel naked.  but not lost.

  • I want to know what a dip is too..Anyways, I feel self conscious when I don't wear my ring too, but thats because I have a very prominent tan. :)Also, its a defence tool, I could really cut a .... up. I take chunks outta the FI every once in a while (not purposely). So its practical!

  • I hope you have family and friends available to help you get from place to place during this difficult time.

  • I forget to put my Ering on all the time and quite often go days without wearing it.  I guess it's not that big a deal to me.  I'd also like to know what a "dip" is.
  • And now I want onion dip.
  • A dip is when you get a white gold ring redipped to restore the 'white' color.

  • salt - thanks for the laugh.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • y e-ring dipped (redipped in rodium to brighten the coloring of white gold or platimun) right before the wedding and they had it ready for me to pick up 2 days later....not sure why those jewelers are taking so long on it....
  • White gold rings have a rhodium plating or something on them and if you don't get them dipped every 6 months to one year, they start to yellow.  I haven't had mine "dipped" since just before our wedding in August 2008, so they're getting more and more of a pale yellow.I definitely wouldn't say I'm lost without them though.  I forgot to put my rings on yesterday and felt naked, but I survived.

  • 2 weeks??? my jeweler takes 1-2 days!
  • Ahh, thanks for the explanations.  I've never heard of that before, but I think I may have to do that before the wedding with mine.
  • maybe "lost" wasnt the right word...i am definately surviving..im just so used to looking down and seeing it and now i dont! after wearing a ring for so long..it just feels weird to not have one on. i think ill put a temp one on for the next couple weeks so my hand doesnt feel so weird!
  • it usually doesnt take that long to get it dipped but im also getting it sized along with my band so im sure thats why its taking so long. 1-2 days would be nice!
  • A dip is when you get a white gold ring redipped to restore the 'white' color. I need that. Our jeweler told me it would be about 2 weeks for them to soder mine together. They also told me to wait until winter because once they are fitted together they fit smaller, and in the summer your hands swell. So I will have to have it resized as well.
  • thats probably a good idea. i am so excited im getting mine fitted! it drove me crazy when my hands were cold i could shake my hand and it would fly off! it was a 1/2 size too big!
  • I haven't had my ring in almost 3 weeks and won't until the wedding (another 2 wks).  I really thought it would be harder than it is.  I just pictured myself always thinking I left it somewhere but nope.
  • wow, never heard of having a ring dipped.
  • no? why kind of ring do you have?
  • I have never heard of this either. You don't have to do this with platinum right?
  • i believe you can get platinum dipped. it just puts a fresh coat on to look new and shiny again. white gold especially scratches easily and starts to turn yellowy
  • I wonder if I need to do this with Palladium?  It's supposed to be between white gold and platinum, so maybe...?
