Got engaged last night in Santa Fe-HELP!(:

I am so excited! My boyfriend and I have been living together for over a year now so I had already started playing around on here and we already knew we wanted Santa Fe for our location when we got married. Well, yesterday he woke me up...told me to pack a bag...and drove me there! We had dinner at Geronimo then walked around the square and he proposed in front of the Cathedral...then we stayed at La Fonda last night. It was awesome! Now of course we are back home in Texas and I am up all night on here!! Ha! Anyway, we went to Buffalo Thunder resort today on our way out of town to check it out and LOVED it! Pretty set on that for July 2010. Any thoughts from any of you?  I have no clue on anything else so I need vendor help and tips PLEASE!(:

Well, firstly, congrats on your engagement! I'm a newlywed, but I don't mind sharing tips with other still to be brides, from what I learned.Always set your budget and then STICK TO IT!! So many brides don't! And don't take out loans to pay for your wedding. Now comes the fun parts... Either buy a wedding planner, or a binder/accordion folder. This will help keep your thoughts and ideas organized. Take this with you whenever you visit vendors.Call several vendors for each thing, flowers, dress, catering, etc., and make appointments. Many vendors will book about a year in advance, so get started. Don't go with your first choice, either. That will be for you and your fiance (FI- for knottie terms) to decide. As for vendor ideas on who we have used, scroll down. Myself and another knottie wrote our vendor reports now that we just got married. Also, many girls post on potential vendors, and put what the service(s) were like, as well as prices. And just for future reference... Stick to this board and your month board for posting purposes. Lurk (Means read) on the national boards. I usually post in Wedding Party and Planning & Ettiquette and I see a lot of just engaged girls get slammed for various things. When you do decide to post on the national boards, just post, no intros; those are annoying. And for just a couple of unwritten Knottie rules: The bridal party only needs to buy their attire and show up; everything else is extra. You don't throw parties in your honor, i.e. engagement, shower, etc. They should be thrown by someone who wants to give you that as a gift. And lastly, there is only 2 reasons to kick someone out of the wedding party, after they have said yes; 1. A bridesmaid sleeps with your FI, in which case you have bigger problems, and 2. The friendship was over. Many girls get "flamed" for these things.

Congratulations! And what and engagement! We will be getting married in the same month!Basically, what Melishka716 said was 100% right. The Knot also sends out some great emails too about how to save money so always check your email from the knot. I am finding out that you can have your dream wedding without spending 10s of thousands of dollars if you just look around. Such as... Wedding favors... I dont think my mother even saved my sisters' wedding favors. They are not that important. I am just getting the cheapy bubbles. They are fun, classic and they will be used. I am also saving $200 from the initial budget for favors. Invites... its ok to buy the blank invites and print everything yourself. Its time consuming but in the end, you do save money. Also, you know those "Save money on you wedding" books? You dont need to buy them. Flip through them and read them in the store. If you by them, you are wasting $20 of you wedding fund.... yeah... that hit me after I bought mine. =)The vendors that I am using and recommend:Say it with CakeSavon Wholesale Floral SupplyIts never too early for vendors. I booked my ceremony and recpetion over a year in advance. I just booked my honeymoon through Orbitz (of the costs go down, we get money back). Anyway, Congrats again! Hit me up if you have questions or we can talk about our wedding plans!

Congratulations on your engagement. For vendors in santa Fe, look at the wedding guides of the Santa Fe Reporter and Santa Fe New mexican. They usually have some reviews and list vendors. I'm not familiar with Buffalo Thunder - it's still new and I haven't been to a conference or event there yet.

Thanks ladies! I will definitely look into those vendors! I still need all of my vendors so I am totally open to suggestions!
