David's Bridal alterations.... aggravation! help?

So, I'm supposed to go back for the 3rd time tomorrow to see if they fixed the issue they created with my dress. I had a corset back put in and now the pleats in the back of the dress just arent right. They look down right stupid, like the dress is caught in the back of my pantyhose waist band.

Anyway... I get a call today at 3 asking if they can reschedule my pick up from tomorrow at noon(less than 24 hours away!!!) until May 15th because they haven't started on my dress.Haven't started!???!  I'm not sure what to do! I really don't want them to rush through my dress and mess it up more or not fix it, but I need to make sure I have enough time to find a new dress in case I need it(not exactly optimistic here). When I got off the phone we agreed I could pick it up tomorrow still, but the man was very displeased I could tell by the tone of his voice.

Should I demand pick up tomorrow or give them the month and hope they can really fix it?

Re: David's Bridal alterations.... aggravation! help?

  • The wedding is August, I know thats awhile still and I'm not trying to over react, I'm just worried. They've had the dress since February but it was 4 weeks ago the problem was first supposed to be fixed.

  • Is it already paid for?  If not, I would tell them not to work on it, go pick it up, and take it to an independent seamstress.

  • Yes, it's already paid for.

  • Independent seamstress all the way.  I hardly hear anything but nightmare stories regarding David's Bridal...especially in respect to alterations.

  • Well, your first clue should have been paying for it up front.  I would honestly pick it up anyways and take it to an independent seamstress.  I know it probably was a couple of hundred dollars, but consider it money lost on a mistake.

To put it in perspective, I recently had a corset back put in to my dress.  Davids Bridal quoted me $200 for just the coreset back, that didn't include cups or the bustle.  I went to an independent seamstress and got a corset back, six point bustle, cups sewen in, and a bridesmaid dress for a different wedding taken in, all for $175.  And the alterations are of much higher quality than what comes out of DB's chop shop.
