honeymoon - travel agent?

Has anyone used a local travel agent to plan their honeymoon? Recommendations? FI and I are planning on Italy in June after the wedding but don't even know where to begin. TIA :-)

We just got back from our honeymoon to Italy last Saturday! I could give you some recommendations on hotels, activities and restaurants that we liked (and didn't like) if you're interested. We used the Rick Steve's guide books & they seemed to help a lot. As for the travel agent... we met with a woman at http://www.travel-encounters.com/. They specialize in Italian vacations. The woman was very nice & everything, but I felt like we could be more flexible & save a lot of money if we did everything on our own.

Natalie -- had you ever been to Italy before the honeymoon? FI and I don't want to get stuck seeing super-touristy things, but I also don't want to just fly over there and have nothing planned and just "wing it". I love Rick Steves though!

I went to Italy about 5 years ago with a friend before this.  In that trip we tried to do everything & see every city, so it was pretty exhausting.  So, for this one, we took two weeks & just went to Rome & Florence.  I have to say though, it was still pretty exhausting.  There is just so much to see & do there & you don't want to miss anything.  For our final day in Rome, we packed a lunch hung out at a park all day.  That was nice!  We did get a little tired of the tourist traps too, especially with restaurants.  The best places we found to eat were through asking the hotel managers.  Have you been there before?  Do you know what areas you'd like to see or how long you'll be staying?

Our travel agent is amazing! We have planned 3 trips with her so far (including our honeymoon) and she is so knowledgable and gave us such great deals! She has been all over the world and can recommend places for you to go, depending on the amount of $ you want to spend and what you are looking for in the trip. If you call her, tell her Michelle Jacquet referred you and she will take good care of you :) Her info is: Patti Harb 440-668-8900. Good Luck :)

i am currently using VIP Vacations for my DW. Jennifer is wonderful. www.travelbyvip.com is their site. Plus she is all over TV and I have her now before they get too big. LOL. I know they have offices all over but not sure about our area! GL
