Hi- I was thinking about getting my dress made- I have a picture of something I have in mind. Has anyone done this? Have any suggestions for seamstresses/ designers?Thanks!

    Check out Amanda Archer. I have only looked at her stuff online but it looks really great.

    Has anyone actually had any experience with getting a dress made? How does the pricing usually compare? I ask because the two dresses I like are way over my budget and was considering having a replica made.

    I am having my dress made and it's going to be around $350 - most of which is her labor costs.  However, mine isn't a "real gown".  It's an organic cotton, hippie-ish dress. PIB.My advice is if you're really debating having it custom made, first e-mail a picture of the dress to the designer with the fabric you'd like to have it made from and they should be able to give you a rough estimate of price and whether or not they feel confident in their ability to recreate it for you.  Then have a face-to-face meeting with them to make sure you are both on the same page, etc.  Also, make sure that they can provide you with some pictures of other dresses they've made and contact info for other brides you can speak with.
