Vintage Wedding Ideas

I'm getting married at The Columns on St. Charles and am hoping to have a vintage theme.  My dress (Casablanca 1900) is very elegant and vintage-inspired, but I'm not sure where to go with the bridesmaid dresses and centerpieces.  Two ideas I'm throwing around are teal bridesmaid dresses (are these appropriate for an early May wedding?) and peacock feathers accenting the centerpieces.  What do you think?  Any other vintage ideas?

    My wedding is peacock themed (and my last name is Wallace!). I'm doing peacock feathers everywhere. I'm not really sure how to make it more vintage feeling. If you can find some great looking vintage candle holders, etc I'm sure that would help the vibe. Make sure your hairstyle and your BM's hairstyles are vintage inspired. What are the guys wearing?

    I'm doing vintage-y as well. My dress is vintage inspired also. My bm dresses are teal and I LOVE IT!!!! My wedding is in April so I think it's totally appropriate for summer/spring weddings. I think peacock feathers are a good idea too! Other ideas: we are using damask as an accent.... HTH! good luck!

    I love the idea and think tea length is appropriate. You can also check out the Vintage Wedding board. Instead of logging into the area you are located, there are a few options underneath. One is Theme Weddings and an option is Vintage. I've noticed some great websites and links to thinks from other brides. I am going with a 1950s sort of feel. I don't know how Vintage Inspired it is, but I really love my seating assignments. They look light little street lights. You can find them at www.kateaspen.com and search for Bourbon Street.     you could check out Birdcage veils for yourself. I think those are very vintage and beautiful!

    Thanks for all the great ideas, and keep them coming.  I'm now pretty set on teal.  I might incorporate two peacock feathers into the bouquets, and I'm now going to wear a peacock headpiece at the reception only. Since my dress is really ornate, I'll probably do a simple veil and use vintage hair pins for the ceremony.   My color scheme will be teal, light green, ivory and gold.

    When you say vintage is that a general idea or do you have a specific era, Victoria, Roaring 20s, etc?

    Hey Sarah, I am seriously considering the columns for my wedding also. I was wondering if I could ask you couple of questions. My email is tulanenyc at gmail One cute idea I saw someone set up a type of photo booth for their columns wedding where guests where encouraged to try on different masks. If you search for columns hotel new orleans wedding on youtube it should pop up.

    My fiance and I are also having a vintage [1950s-ish] *and* peacock themed wedding in about a month. We're really going for more of a polished style rather than a literal translation; it's about the way the past feels to us. Our color scheme is a dark purple, sage green, and cream. My dress is vintage 50s [from vintageous.com] I'm a designer, and came up with an invitation with a purple stripe on one side and my own design of a stylized peacock on the bottom; cream and touched with green. My sister is my only attendant; and will be wearing a cream a-line dress with a square neck we found at Macy's. It has a cream floral pattern and hits right at her knees. It's vintage *feeling* without being knock you over the head literal. Our centerpieces are 8" cylinder vases filled with old pieces of white porcelain we found lakeside. We're decorating each vase differently; with different configurations of small purple silk flowers, peacock feathers, and ivory ostrich feathers. Some are filled with water and topped with a floating candle. Others are left dry with tea lights placed around them. Hope this helps. :) Good luck. -j
