Outdoor wedding - need a PA system?

For girls that had outdoor weddings - or are planning an outdoor wedding - did you/do you plan to mic your officiant? We're having about 60-70 guests, so I'm thinking as long as the officiant speaks up, they should all be able to hear. The wedding will be away from the road, so I don't imagine it would be too loud.I have contact information for a company that we can rent a PA system from - just trying to decide if we really need it.

When I interviewed potential DJ's about providing sound amplification for the officiant for my outdoor wedding for 100, most said that about 100 guests was the cutoff for amplification/no amplification.  I opted to run a mic for the readers and the officiant since our guest list has since grown to be about 120.  I think you'd be ok without it though.

Thanks - since we aren't having a DJ this discussion didn't ever come up until recently. I'm also wondering if the reception music through external computer speakers/IPOD speakers will be loud enough, has anyone done an IPOD wedding to know that?

We're doing an "IPOD wedding" (we'll have a friend announce important stuff like cake cutting, food, etc); however, we're renting sound equipment to use alongside it because we were worried it wouldn't be loud enough with just computer speakers.

Yea, that's what I'm wondering if we should just rent the basic package that has a wired mic and a couple speakers.

We are having about 95 guests and were told it would be hard for all the guests to hear us. Not a problem for the officiant because they are used to preaching to crowds. Think about when you are saying your vows and your tone and inflection. I think it will be tough for guest in the back to hear you.

    That's a good point, I hadn't thought about that.
