Name Change-- is this weird?

I'm getting married Saturday and I still don't know what to do about my name.  I want to take FIs name, but I don't want to lose mine or hyphenate it.  My middle name is my paternal grandmother's maiden name (she died when my dad was a kid)  Would it be weird to have: first name, middle name, maiden name, FI's name?  So I'd have 2 middle names?  Has anyone done this before?  I feel like paperwork might get complicated....

  • If I take FI's name, that's exactly what I'll do.

  • This is what I did.  It wasn't a problem to have 4 names with social security, but I will say that many thing don't allow you to put 4 names on it (passport, MA drivers license, etc.).  For those, I'm just First Maiden Married.
  • I have two last names already. I honestly never use the second one, its just for show. I will most likely get rid of that second middle name and replace it with my maiden. I just know I'll never use it.

  • It's not weird.  But some states do not allow you to unless it's VIA court order.  Court orders are not a big deal, just more hassle than changing your last name.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • My name is First Middle Maiden DH'sLast. I have 4 names on my SS card, but had to pick 1 middle initial to be displayed on my driver's license - I chose the initial for my maiden name. If a form says middle initial/name, I put both.

  • My younger sister has 2 middle names, so I see no problem with 2 middle names...

  • Thats how mine is. Many do it. Its not complicated. No worries :D
  • I tried to do this, but ran into a lot of problems with places that wouldn't let me have all four names. My school's registrar and the BMV were the big ones that come to mind. There, I was only First Middle HisLast, and they deleted my maiden name altogether. Somehow, seeing my driver's license without my maiden name on it really bothered me. I ended up going back and hyphenating the two last names.
  • You can certainly have four names. I teach at a community college where the average age is 29 and over 70% of the students are married or have been married. Probably the breakdown on names looks like this: 30% = 4 names like you are suggesting 35% = First Maiden NewLast 30% = First Middle NewLast 5% = did not change name at all
  • I was allowed to change it to first, maiden, newlastname at the SS office but when I got to the DMV they said they could not do that without a court order. So my driver's license actually just has first and newlastname (I have no middle name). So it could be a problem, depending on what state you live in. I'm in NV.
