How to make rectangle tables look elegant?

I originally wanted to have round tables because I think they look more elegant. Since we have recently changed our venue, we can use the 8 ft. rectangle tables they provide or we can rent round tables. The party has to be over and the hall closes at midnight so I don't think there would be time for the vendors to come in and pick up their things without ending the party early. To save money and space, we could use the long tables and I'm wondering how to make these look more elegant. Does one centerpiece go on a table or several? Does anyone have any pictures? Thanks!

 • IMO long tables can be done very elegantly. There are tons of options from runners, candles, petals or multiple CP's. Google is your friend!http://tinyurl.com/y8afmcs

 • We're using squares that accommodate 8 guests, and we're having a banquet table to hold 30 of our closest family members.  I think that long tables look very elegant, and they're not overdone.  You'll need to do more than one centerpiece on each table, or you could just get a ton of candles in varying sizes and group them along the table.  Really concentrate them in the very middle, and have them taper off as they move out toward the edge.

 • We're using long tables as well...putting 5 together on each side of the room.  I think they are really elegant if done simply.  We're using our cakes as centerpieces, but I've seen some really nice tables on the reception ideas page on the knot homepage. One that I saw was to have one large candelabra with several smaller centerpieces, just flowers on the tables. This one is on the reception ideas page.........
 • We are doing white or ivory tablecloths and making runners out of black tulle. As far as centerpieces, we are having our table markers in center, small fishbowl vases with flowers on either side, and 2 votives on either side of each vase. So it will be spread out, but that's all we're putting on tables.

 • We had four 6' tables pushed together to make one loooong 24' table (we had three of them for 72 guests). We had a few centerpieces on each table and a lot of candles. PIB Personally, I think rectangular tables are more elegant than rounds so we paid extra to make it work since our venue usually uses rounds :) Good luck!
 • Thanks! I'm actually starting to like the idea of long tables rather than round.
