Unique RI welcome bags

My FI and I are putting together welcome bags for our out of town guests who have booked rooms in hotel block we reserved.

Does anyone have ideas for things that are unique to RI?

Autocrat coffee syrup, Del's packets & Cape Cod potato chips are the few I've seen mentioned in other RI bags.

  • Iggy's doughboy and clam cake mix and NY System are also big in RI.

  • Booklets and flyers on local attractions (Newport, Providence, etc.) which usually contain maps and calendars of events :-)
  • As a nod to RI/New England/being near the water, we did Cape Cod chips, goldfish crackers, swedish fish, and a Narragansett Summer Beer (it has a picture of the Towers on it - where we had our reception) in each bag. We also had a 2 page welcome letter/suggestions of things to do and places to eat.

We had a Del's cart after our ceremony, but if we hadn't I think the Del's packets are really cute.
  • We are doing:
    Dels packets
    Salt Water Taffy
    Goldfish crackers
    Ring pops (get it?)
    Necco Wafers
and I am having my fiance look today for lobster lollipops
plus lots of RI maps, a  RI monthly magazine, and lots of tourist packets.

  • Can I ask where you guys got the tourist packets and brochures? I'm making OOT bags as well. Thanks!
  • Thank you all for the ideas. I definitely hadn't thought of some of them. I think the RI monthly will go over well as well as some of the treats. Where can I find the packets of Dell's?
  • I got the Tourist info at the convention center when i was there earlier this year for a bridal show. And at hotels. If you go to a providence hotel just grab a stack. I only needed liek 15-20 so I would just grab a stack when I was someplace.
You can also call like the Newport Tourist office and they will put aside stuff for you.. I am sure you can do the same ting in Providence but it was just as easy for me to grab a bunch since there are literally 100 things at hotels and the convention center.

I bought the Del's packets at East Side Marketplace. They sell them in singles there- which is good if you don't need a lot. thye re 1.49 each
I also bought some at Dave's Marketplace, in a 10 count plastic tub for 9.99. (so its cheaper to do it that way)

  • oh and for the RI monthly, I just had my mom save hers. It was too expensive to get all new issues- and since people are from out of town it wasnt the hugest deal to have older issues just so they could read the articles/ get a glimpse of RI. Plus all the restaurants in the back with the little blurbs are usually in every issue.

  • I love this idea!! I am thinking of doing the same for some of the guests, due to the fact that I have a ton of out of town guests.  We shall see what happens!  Good luck!
  • There is a store called Only in RI and they only carry products from the state--you can find lots of great ideas there too.  Goodies by the Sea in Newport also does chocolates in great shapes like a lobster, sailboat and others
  • ps. job lot always have lobster lollipops for $1.50!

  • We did Del's mix, coffee syrup, snacks, the tourist stuff from the convention center (just tell them what you need it for....they will happily give it to you), illustrated maps of Providence (also from the convention center), a brochure with wedding weekend details, pens from PC (I went there), tylenol and tums, purell wipes, water with custom labels I made, a photo share card, and a RI dictionary card.  I made the dictionary from these websites: http://www.citydictionary.com/RI/ and http://www.quahog.org/factsfolklore/index.php?id=43
I'd happily share the dictionary if you want me to send it to you.   I got the Del's from Only in RI store in tubs.  Here are a couple of pictures:

  • Any suggestions for inexpensive bags to put all the OOT goodies in?

  • Where did you buy (or make) those boxes you put everything in?  I also went to (and now work at) PC so I will incorporate some Friars stuff as well.

  • I got the boxes from Box and Wrap (I think)

I designed the labels and attached them to cardstock with glue dots.  Then I hot glued the cardstock to the ribbon and attached that to the box with hot glue again.

  • I got the dell's packets at Bennys! We are also doing cape cod potato chips, maps and tourist guides, postcard of newport, goldfish, boston baked beans candy, dunkin donuts coffee, and newport storm beer. Maybe a few other things too, i am still working on them!
