Grrrr...

So we have done 3 cake tastings in which 2 out of the 3 have been good. The first one was with Margie, second with Victorias Cakery, and the third with Amphora bakery..We really liked Margie from day one. Her cakes tasted awesome and the price was great as well..Victorias cakery was BLAH!!! Amphoras was DELISH, but the price really isnt in our budget, although it wasnt as expensive as I thought it would be. My mom and Eddie really want to go with Amphoras but its the price that holds me back from signing a contract. And they want FULL PAYMENT at time of signing contract..Hmmm.. Soooooo heres my vent, LOL! I shouldve signed a contract with Margie from the beginning. I figured I had enough time, and I also wanted to keep my options open by tasting other bakeries cakes..So I found out today that another bride contacted Margie, had a tasting and signed a contract with her for the same date as me!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Why me?!?!?!?! Im sooo upset, but thats what I get for procrastinating.. My fh says this may just mean theres something better our there for us..Who know he may be right. I have a couple other tastings set up, so hopefully one of those will end up being the one to make our cake.. If anybody has any good cake/bakery referrals I would appreciate it!!

The good things about cakes and bakeries is that they can do more than one for a date and still have them at the reception in perfect condition... you should stick with margie, and make sure you ask her how these situations work. hope this helps and dont stress, i bet your cake is going to be great :)

Boo! I saw on Margie's website that she only does 1 cake per weekend so that really sucks! The girlfriend of my fiance's best friend is a cake decorator/baker at Wegman's and is in culinary/pastry school to be a wedding cake baker (is that what they're called?!) and so she's making ours for free..we got lucky!

Aww that totally sucks!  I have a cake tasting with Margie in 2 weeks, and because of her prices/good reputation we're going to probably sign that day.  Too bad she can't do more than 1 per weekend :(

We used Alexandria Pastry Shop on King Street.  They were reasonabley (around 4-5 per serving) and did a beautiful job. We had a tiramisu cake and a chocolate raspberry groom's cake.  I'd highly recommend them.

Try Mary Elliott in baltimore. She bakes out of her home lk Margie, but her prices aren't as low as Margies.  I loved her cakes.. I think her slices start at 3.25 a slice.. She will do different flavors every layer and such just lk Margie.. Email me at payal.aggarwal@constellation.com for her contact info.GL

i absolutely LOVE Amphoras cake. It is a deal breaker for me. Do what makes you feel good about your wedding.

That really is a bummer! I had a fantastic tasting with Lara from Fluffy Thoughts. Her cakes are delicious and she's very easy going. We weren't ready to decide on a design yet so we were able to put 300 down to reserve the date. She really is super sweet.www.fluffythoughts.comshe has a contact page right there and is very good about getting back to you in a timely manner.

Edibles Incredible in Reston is really really good. They actually ruined us for all the other cakes we tasted b/c we went there first. I would say that even if you don't use them, do a tasting b/c their cake is AMAZING and they give you full slices for each flavor you want to try. We took a bag home and still couldn't finish it with five of our friends. They were pretty far out of our price range but the problem was that all the cake places we looked at were out of our price range - I think it is ridiculous that these things cost $3-$5 a slice - even when they were done out of people's homes.  We figured that if we were going to spend a lot anyway, we might as well make it cake worth eating. www.ediblesincredible.com

Late to the game- but you should try Happy Eatery. I thought they were priced really well, and I loved the cake and I don't even like cake. I had the same problem- Margie was booked on my day too :-(
