Anyone get married at The Hay-Adams?

My fiance and I are in negotiations with The Hay to have our wedding there in the spring. We are having an awful time working out the details of the contract, many of which seem highly unusual and unreasonable (such as they have two clauses that allow the hotel to change our wedding to a different space in the hotel for any reason!). The Hay is our dream venue but we don’t want to put ourselves at risk. We'd love to hear reviews from couples who've had events there...did you have crazy things like that in your contract? who was the catering person with whom you worked? did everything go as planned? was it everything you hoped it would be? was the food amazing? did they allow you to use the vendors you chose without a problem? did they charge you little extras here and there, or were they reasonable? were they easy to work with?

We ended up not having our wedding at Hay-Adams but they were one of our top picks but when it got down to it, compared to other top hotel venues, they were a bit over the top and had too many stipulations such as the one you mentioned.  At the time we were looking, the back room was under renovation so, they weren't sure if that space would be available for us so, the back up was the front room which was an odd space (with the columns and dividers) and although the ceremony on the balcony would've been awesome (the view is amazing), we were concerned that older guests would have problems going up the stairs. so, we ended up having our wedding at the Ritz Carlton and they were a lot easier to work with.  Also, Ritz package included things that Hay-Adams was charging (i.e. wedding cake).  If you want to check out the Ritz, I can forward you the info on the person I worked with who went out of her way to accommodate us.

We also looked at the Hay Adams, and they also could not guarantee the room, so we're having our March 2010 wedding at the Willard in the Crystal Room. They were able to guarantee this room and for a wedding of about 100 people, I love this room better than the bigger ballroom or the Willard Room. They are filpping the Crystal Room from ceremony to reception.
