Wedding cake centerpiece?

I already asked Carley but Im not sure if I will get a reply so here is my question for everyone, I am juggling an idea right now to have a cake at every table at the reception instead of having one big cake. It would be a 6 " cake and would serve as the centerpiece at the table. We are having a plated dinner already so there will be waitresses at the reception and I would ask them if they could come cut the cake at each table while my fiance and I are cutting our own "mini cake". Each of these cakes would be uniquely decorated according to our colors and theme. Would this be tacky? Or a new cool idea?

I don't see a problem with it. I'm sure they will be pretty and the guests will like them.

A girl on my local board did this at her wedding and it was very pretty and she said the guests loved it.

My cousin did this at her wedding, but she and her groom came around and cut the cakes for us. It gave them a nice brief time to greet their guests.

It seems to be a more common idea although I have yet to see it in person, I think its really cute too...and bonus using the centerpiece for double duty!!!

My friend did this last year at her wedding, I thought it was cool and was considering it myself! Not tacky at all! It kills two birds with one stone!

As part of the cake decor (and because of the large number of people) you could have the cakes already cut. If the cake has layers it would look lovely to see the layers peeking through.
